Sony Godzilla Blu Rays CONFIRMED!!

The TOHO Blu Rays were SUCH a mixed bag...and I have them all. Some looked little better than the DVD (Godzilla vs King Ghidorah...Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla, Mothra ) some showed a nice,quite noticeable , but not spectacular improvement (Godzilla vs Mothra...GMK..Mysterians...Rodan ) a few were MUCH better (Space Godzilla...Ghidorah...Mothra vs Godzilla...War of the Gargantuas) but TOHO's own GOJIRA is a disaster..way to soft...too much DNR. The CRITERION simply blows it away in every respect.

DESTROYAH is an odd one...much better detail...cooler color palette...but some funky black levels. Still...much better than the DVD...

ALL of them would benefit from tweaking your player or monitor...boost the color a bit and bring down the black levels. On my OPPO 103D...the better discs look amazing

So looks like I will stick with my import ones...the extras are great too...sad SONY could not use them.

So apparently they're using dubtitles after al, is what I'm hearing?

That's the only thing I'm legit disappointed by here since we knew from day. 1 that we were gettin subpar Toho transfers (I'm shocked that so many people are surprised that these have such "meh" video quality).

^Those dubtitles are the subtitle tracks Toho gave 'em, just like before. These are Toho tracks.

It's bizarre that the "Kraken Releasing" blus are using the fantastic Sony transfers, whereas the Sony discs are using the mediocre Toho ones. I would have thought for sure it would be the other way around. Weird...

Are we sure they're dubtitles? I thought Keith said a few pages back he didn't notice dubtitles with the movies he looked at.

Don't the HK dubs tend to be closer to the original dialogue than 3rd party dubs? If that is the case, then that might explain why the subs match the dubs so closely.

According to the answers Sony provided Sci-Fi Japan a little while back:

-- Sony picked up most of the HD masters from Toho recently

-- The blu-rays would be the uncut Japanese versions with Japanese and English audio tracks. The question was pretty clear here distinguishing Toho's original cuts, the international versions (specifying title overlays and English credits) and the versions Sony used for the DVDs.

-- When asked about subtitles and specifically dubtitles (including defining what these were), Sony said that "the subtitles were created from the original Japanese audio track.

I mean...Sony sucks...but they're using what TOHO gave them. Shouldn't we attack TOHO for not caring enough about their fans who speak English to even properly translate THEIR OWN FILMS?

Or am I misunderstanding?
