I found Galbraith's commentary quite informative, and it should be realized that all of these actors did so many other projects, not just kaiju. I believe Stuart said that Kumi Mizuno was in 13 or 14 pictures in just one year alone! :o And though some of the titles he mentions, we never heard of, I thought at least he tried to tell us what the story was about such as that Japanese rendition of Cyrano de Bergerac, where Akira Takarada was the handsome one, but it was Toshiro Mifune feeding him the lines! That is one I would love to see!

And I also agree with him that the beginning theme for "Monster Zero" in the American version is better than the Japanese. It gives a more mysterious tone, and since I didn't know who Monster Zero was (when I first saw this), it was quite appropriate.

We've been talking about these over at the Home Theater Forum and apparently the R1, Japanese-language transfer is different than the R2. Go and scroll down to the third post from the bottom to see his frame grabs. Kinda' interesting.

I concurr with others....GTTHM is a film that even today never ceases to amaze me or capture my attention. Many may not agree, but in my opinion, it's the best Godzilla film ever, and perhaps the best kaiju no eiga film ever. I just love this movie to no end.

I have had the Japanese R2 for awhile, so I haven't picked this release up yet (nor any of the CM releases so far), but I am awfully tempted to by some of the good reviews and a chance to get some of the American versions on DVD, such a GTTHM. However, from reviews I heard so far, I was disappointed that the best Godzilla movie had one of the weakest commentaries in David Kalat. Now I will reserve judgement until I hear it myself, but from what I have heard from nearly all reviews thus far, it appears unanimous that his commentary left a lot to be desired. And gee, what a shock that he would go off on a tangent about "strong women in G films" (If anyone has read his Godzilla book, they would understand what I mean...especially his rediculous criticisms of films like GvsMegalon for not having "strong women characters"....puhlease!).

It's too bad that one of the best G films didn't have commentary from Ed G or Steve Ryfle instead...I was looking forward to hearing their input and extensive anedotes and knowledge on this outstanding piece of kaiju cinema, not someone's opinions on the role of the Peanuts in the women's right movement

By the way, any chance we will ever see the great "Spirit of Godzilla" with English subtitles on a CM release in the future? Spirt of Godzilla was an awesome documentary/ extra feature on the GFW 3 DVD special set...I would love to see an English translation of it.

I may also be getting GvsMonster Zero (sorry, but I absolutely refuse to call it "Invasion of Astro-Monster....yuck! :puke: ) as it's one of the few G films I do not have on R2...another film I still get giddy whenever I watch it. :D Please tell me Kalat did not do commentary on GvsMonsterZero too...
