Since today saw the release of Sony's TOHO COLLECTION, SciFi Japan has updated with an in-depth and exclusive interview with Michael Friend, the man in charge of restoring the Japanese and American versions of THE H-MAN, BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE, and MOTHRA for the new DVD set.

What threatens to hurt BIOS is the lack of any interesting character development or anything to really emotionally engage the viewer as well as aliens with poorly thought out motivations and actions.

However, what saves it (big time) are Tsuburaya's fantastic effects and one of Ifukube's best scores. These two elements are Battle in Outer Space. If you look at the film from that point of view it can be a hell of a lot of fun.

Bought the set today (damn me not having patience) and I'm about to pop in Mothra (US version because I'm rather sleepy and don't want to fall asleep on the Japanese version) and wow this packing does suck like everyone said.

I'm half tempted just to buy individual DVD cases for each film and put custom art in.
