Sony has nothing to do with "the overlays". Those are Toho's international versions that Toho themselves put together.

So it looks like Sony has been adding some of their Godzilla movies, along with movie clips (which they label as trailers) to Youtube, which are available for $9.99. I'm not sure if these are representative of what we will be getting on Blu-ray, but its worth noting that GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH is in widescreen (as is GODZILLA VS MOTHRA), with subtitles. With the exception of GvsKG, and regardless of the name of the trailer, all of the trailers contain the English dub with no subtitles. I'm not sure if the Youtube video of the full movies grants you access to the Japanese language, the English dub, or both. I'll leave it up to other people to attempt to try to determine which version of each movie they're using

- uploaded on April 7th, 2014. The runtime of the full movie on Youtube is 1:40:56, and the runtime on my DVD is 1:40:57.
- uploaded on April 7th, 2014. Interestingly, the trailer drops the "Battle for Earth" subtitle. Sony hasn't uploaded the full movie yet, so there's no way to see if this change is included in the full movie.
- uploaded on April 6th, 2014. The runtime of the full movie on Youtube is 1:47:52, and the runtime on my DVD is 1:46:04.
- uploaded on September 9th, 2012. The runtime of the full movie on Youtube is 1:42:57, and the runtime on my DVD is 1:40:57.
- uploaded on January 29th, 2014. Sony's theatrical dub.
- uploaded on April 6th, 2014. Interestingly, the trailer includes the "The G Annihilation Strategy" subtitle. Their upload of the full movie also includes this subtitle, but I haven't paid $10 to see if that is included in the movie's subtitles.

- uploaded on November 8th, 2012.
- uploaded on April 4th, 2014. English overlay on the title card!

They work...I just wouldn't in a million years call them trailers. Clips would be much more accurate.

Some of the "trailers" have been available for several months -- or more -- on Amazon's streaming service. And the HD versions of the films with title overlays have been playing on the Sony Movie Channel since 2012...

With the possible exception of the subtitled GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH clip (since Sony has had subbed materials for that film since 2004) all of the trailers and streaming versions Sony is offering now have been in their possession for years. I wouldn't take them to be indicative of what will be on the Blu-rays since Sony recently acquired new materials from Toho specifically for the upcoming releases. The word I got from Sony is that the Blu-rays will have the Japanese versions and, while Sony could have been mistaken, nothing I've seen here today offers evidence one way or the other.

The prices seem to be pretty much $15+ everywhere, except for the MG'93/SPACEG pack, which is still only $13.99 on Amazon.

I found them for $14.21 pre-order at Barnes and Noble.com That seems to be the cheapest I could find now that the Amazon.com prices have gone up.

I received my comps and SFJ contest prize copies of the Sony Godzilla Blu-rays today. I’ve only had a chance to give each of the discs a quick look but they’re a mixed bag. I suspect some fans will be happy with the picture quality and audio options, while other fans will be very unhappy at the version of the movies Sony used …

The GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH/GODZILLA AND MOTHRA set has the TriStar versions of these films (with no end credits) but now presented in widescreen and with dual English and Japanese audio tracks.

GODZILLA VS MECHAGODZILLA II has the TriStar opening credits with the Toho international end credits.

All of the other films are the Toho international versions with complete end credits and white opening title overlays (except for FINAL WARS ).

I was pleased with the image quality of all the films. The 1990s film have more grain than the Millennium films.

Based on a VERY quick check of the subtitles, I didn’t notice a dubtitles or mistakes. the TOKYO SOS subs still use “Mechagodzilla” rather than “Kiryu”, but I wasn’t surprised since Toho has done that since before the film even opened in Japan.

The menus for all the Heisei films are the same. Same with all of the Millennium film menus.

Each film comes with a selection of Japanese trailers (with subtitles). TOKYO SOS and FINAL WARS also have the featurettes from the Sony DVDs.
