Blu Ray News didn't have a date yet, beyond a vague 'later this year.'

^Sunset Boulevard is available on Blu-Ray. I'm looking at it across the room in my 'to watch' pile... I think I got it for Christmas.

Totally agree about those Bogart titles. I'd really love getting more Universal horror films and any Val Lewton films in HD.

Universal monsters blu-rays along the lines of the DVD Legacy Collections would be amazing. Then even throw in a "one-off" collection, for their 50s space alien type stuff. I'd be a happy camper.

Yeah I'd love to see a:

"Sequels Universal Monster Set"
"Another set with Black Cat, Old Dark House etc.) (both of these points ihb412 already made excellently)
And finally a "Universal Sci Fi (1950s)" set.

I'm actually content right now with the dvds of all of these BUT, as these are among my favorite movies of all time I'd always be willing to upgrade. Thing is, I don't think the Universal Monsters Blu Ray set sold all that well so I think that's all we are going to get on blu ray for the time being.

Updating my list beyond the old school Universal Horror and Sci-Fi films:

-Matinee
-Ikiru
-Porco Rosso
-Spirited Away
-Princess Monoke
-Any Showa Godzilla or Toho Sci Fi film not yet released
-Godzilla 1985
FTW

The Lost World (1925 & 1960). I realize that the 1925 version is in public domain, but as I understand it, Flicker Alley just got off a very nice print of Lon Chaney's "The Hunchback of Norte Dame", a title which was also in pd. So hopefully one day they will do the same with TLW.

A Matter of Life & Death (aka Stairway to Heaven) (1946) - Powell and Pressburger.

Stray Dog (1949) - Kurosawa (with a little Honda in the mix).

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) - With the exception of just a few (such as Mary Poppins), Disney is notoriously slow on releasing any of their live-action features on Blu-ray.

Any remaining Harryhausen Columbia features.

One Million Years B.C. (1966) - If there is one movie that really deserves a great BD treatment, it is this!

The Valley of Gwangi (1969) - Hey, why not?! :)

A couple months ago Disney put up 20,000 Leagues in HD onto their Disney Family Movies On Demand channel.

Off the top of my head, Return to Oz was up there too, as well as Ducktales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, Monkeys Go Home, and Lt. Robins Crusoe USN. There are some more but I don't recall them off hand.

That's interesting, I didn't know that; but then I'm stuck with Time Warner Cable and they don't carry the channel (apparently that won't be changing even if that Comcast TWC merger gets approved (which I hope it doesn't happen). There is supposedly a bunch of stuff from Disney's Vault/catalog hitting blu-ray later this year. I don't recall reading about 20,000 Leagues among the rumored titles, perhaps it will surprise everyone and show up too.

It's actually kind of surprising that Disney didn't make 20,000 Leagues one of their early blus given the movie's prominence. Return to Oz is another curious absence -- it's a great puzzle why Disney did not release the movie onto blu-ray at the same time they released Oz the Great and Powerful.

I took extra notice of the HD versions because, it was only in the last few months that Disney started putting HD versions of movie on the Disney Family Movies On Demand channel. I'm pretty certain there weren't any HD versions up last December. Plus, it was a nice surprise to see HD versions of Disney's live action Vault/catalog movies rather than just the more recent or big animated stuff.

My apologies if this has been mentioned before, but one film I would love to get on Blu is Gappa. Back in the glory days of "Monsters HD" I happened to catch this and was amazed at how good it looked. I've not been able to watch my old Media Blasters DVD since and my R2 copy, while nice, is not as clear and has no dub or subtitles. Hopefully someone has it in the works...

Over at Home Theater Forum Richard Harris teased 2015's Blu-Ray titles from the WB catalog (regular releases and Warner Archive), mentioning Humphrey Bogart, Errol Flynn, and Hammer Horror!

I really want the complete series of Columbo on Blu-Ray. It's HD on Netflix and there's already a Blu set in Japan

Twilight Time will release the Hammer version of Hound of the Baskervilles and the Gregory Peck version of Moby Dick on Blu next year.

While Kino will release the complete madness of At the Earth's Core in January.
