Battle Royale is the most popular Japanese film in America?
Among the dozens of other BAFFLING things recently to be posted by Zack and Mac, that one has me scratching my head quite a bit...
Godzilla?
Gamera?
Spirited Away?
Howl's Moving Castle?
Ponyo?
One Missed Call?
Ju-On?
Ringu?
I'd bet MONEY that an unbiased poll would prove any one and likely ALL of those films to be more well-known and more popular than BR, a film that hasn't even been released on home video here in the states yet, and never saw a real theatrical run.
In fact, I'd be willing to bet money (yeah, more money) that when BR ultimately DOES come to home video, MOST people will (wrongly) think it is a rushed-into-production film meant to capitalize on The Hunger Games.
Regardless, I maintain that basing your opinion of a film off of the opinions of others is just absolutely silly.
If you don't like it, fine, but just say you don't like it. Disliking something because emo people like it is just STUPID. It's not like you're going to catch "emo-influenza" if you admit that you like something they like. I like Battle Royale and I haven't started wearing all black, dying my nails, growing my hair out, looking at how bleak and dark and full of death the world is, and cutting myself.
