According to what digging I've done, the system might not play the 3D disc at all if you have a 2D display. If there's a 2D version on the same disc as the 3D, it will play that. Otherwise, you won't see anything whatsoever.

I tested my 2D TV's ability to play 3D blu-rays last night. I have the 3D blu-ray of Prometheus, due to it being the only version to include all the special features. My blu-ray player is 3D-enabled, so I configured all the settings to play 3D video in 2D. Unfortunately, it wouldn't even play the disc as far as the main menu. It just popped up a screen saying that a 3D TV was required and it wouldn't play the disc. Bear in mind that Prometheus was a 20th Century Fox release rather than Warner, so I don't know if it's that draconian for all distributors.

For reference, my TV is a Panasonic TX-L37G20 and the player is a Panasonic DMP-BDT230.

Bought the blu ray with the bonus features from target. So I am sitting here watching the final fight on Blu ray and the darkness actually looks better to me than it did in theaters. Either some people bought some defective discs or their TVs are set up wrong. I was even looking for the specific scenes from the previous screen caps that looked awful and they looked nothing like that on the blu ray.

Seriously though, this picture was taken with a crappy Iphone 4 with a scratched up lens. Look how bright my living room is. Look at the glare from all the ambient light and yet you can still see a bunch of detail.

Well good. I kinda thought the whole super dark transfer thing might've been a bit overblown, so I'm glad that turned out to be the case, at least thus far. How are the special features on it?

Glad to hear the darkness is a non-issue with you. Probably has more to do with the screen settings on people's tv's. Like I said before, some brands are darker than others, particularly Zenith and JVC. The best of the brightest goes to LG and Vizio IMHO.

Bought the Target version as well. It is too dark. I'm not entirely sure how Danny's looks like it does, but playing with the TV set up only does so much.

My TV always tends to be too dark but I saw every detail in the final fight perfectly. The film looks great.

I'm really glad to see that a lot of people on here are saying that their Blu-rays for the movie look fine afterall. I haven't watched mine yet, and I'm actually saving it for when I finish watching Sony's Blu-rays for the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy, Godzilla 2000: Millennium, and the double feature set of Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack and Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. I have a 32 inch 2008 model Samsung LN32A550 LCD 1080p HDTV and both a Sony Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 video game console to be able to watch it on. No idea yet what results I'll have with them under brightly lit conditions with the supposedly darkest scenes, and as far as I know I've had my TV properly calibrated to at least meet my own visual needs. Here's hoping.

Almost got the WalMart exclusive cover today, but I went there and... no exclusive version.


Anyway, if I here more good things about the Target special feature I may go for that version.

I messed up in my post he had a 3D player just not a 3DTV so you do need that in order to play the 3D version it won't work any other way.

On that note I got the 3D set today haven't checked out probably before bed so I'll post my opinions later or tomorrow.

The Wal Mart cover is only for Canada.

Anyway I checked 6 Target stores near me and NONE of them even received the exclusive so I just said screw it and got the normal version. It wasn't worth the hassle for an extra that (from what I've been told) is either stuff we all know already or recycled stuff from the other bonus features.

And yeas, the PQ is fine. Not perfect but it's perfectly watchable.
