This series feels like a warm-up to Ultraman the more and more I watch of it. Just finished the second disc, not bad, but it's still not as refined as it would later become in Ultraman and Ultraseven. My biggest issue so far, is mainly with the plotting. It seems to me like the writers hadn't really cracked the 30 min episode plotting yet. A lot of episodes just seem to end abrubtly. Doesn't help that sometimes I feel a little bit lost because of the subs.

Still, enjoying this series. Can't wait to see the Garamon and Kanegon eps!

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Just received my DVD a few days ago and managed to make it to the second disc. I have to agree with the others on Grow Up! little turtle. This episode was just so freaking weird. I liked it a lot though. It sort of reminded of HAUSU, but with its own twist.

My copy is out for delivery right now. Hopefully I'll get a few episodes in tonight!

The Kanegon episode has easily been my favorite so far. Watched it this morning, loved it. Deserves every bit of praise that it's gotten over the years.

Just put in an order with Amazon. I see you guys talking about the show, and I *know* I will eventually watch it. I still need to finish Ultra Seven. I was going to wait until I had time then to buy it, but I just have a feeling that places purposefully didn't receive a large stock of it. So better buy it now without a pain than have to search for it later at a possibly larger price.

OK, I made it to the last disc last night and this character in the "The Idol of Goga" episode piqued my interest.

It looks like Eiji Tsuburaya but I am not sure (might just be the hat and glasses). Does anyone know from the credits ... or if Tsuburaya-san ever made cameo appearances in his productions, similar to those by another famous producer, Alfred Hitchcock?

I finished watching the set today. Ultra Q is deserving of its place in the Japanese psyche. It tries so many different things, and succeeds at almost all of them.

Favourite episodes: Pegila Has Come, The Spider Baron, The Underground Super-Express to the West, Kanegon's Cocoon, The 1/8 Project, Challenge of the Year 2020, Undersea Primate Ragon.

Favourite monsters: Pegila, M1, Kanegon, Kemuru, Ragon.

Favourite moments: The final scene of Gift from Space. Emergence of the mammoth flower. M1 on the phone, and in orbit. All of Kanegon's Cocoon. Daikaiju Jun and Ippei in The 1/8 Project. Creepy first appearance of the Kemuru. Ragon's glowing eyes.

I'm almost finished with the second disc. I had intended to finish up Ultra Seven before this, but I know now that's not going to happen. Ultra Q's much more up my alley because of how much it mixes everything up. What really surprised me is that I recognized all the creatures from the first disc full of episodes just from my time in the fandom. I also like that while there's a main cast, they're not really the main characters in these stories(so far at least), so each episode is feeling a bit fresher than Ultra Seven did for me.

There's some crazy episodes so far. I'm still not sure what to think of The Underground Super-Express to the West which had a comedic setup and a really trippy ending. Grow Up Little Turtle was a little bizarre for a Cry Wolf parable too. Definitely memorable though.

Finished this today. All in all I liked it...it's behind Ultraman, Ultraseven, and Return of Ultraman for me but there are some episodes of Ultra Q that are equal to, if not better than anything else in those other series.

Ultra Q is a truly great show, though this was a less than great set. The subtitles were sub-par at best, and the Video Quality suffered from some severe ghosting issues. I don't know why they're asking so much for this release either.

^ I thought it was priced very reasonably, especially considering this is a niche release without the name recognition of "Ultraman"
