I mean, maybe I'm just being a videophile but the way Godzilla looks NOW (watchable but COVERED in dust and scratches and hairs, etc.) versus a CRITERION restoration (you know, potentially BETTER than when it was first shown in 1954)?

It's Godzilla '54 on Criterion Blu-Ray. That translates a must-buy. I'm puzzled.

But yeah, I love the Classic Media DVD and it will still proudly sit on my collection. Now I'm not a huge videophile, but a super restoration of this movie is a pretty big deal in my eyes, and I'm all about presentation. Plus, Classic Media's actual Blu-Ray was apparently sub-par, so a new Blu-Ray release from none other than Criterion is like an incredible second chance.

So yep, I'm picking up the Blu-Ray. That way I will have a copy of the film on both mediums.
