... it seems it was a bit too weird for the average moviegoer, though!

BTW, WB's releasing one of their Blu-Ray triple-feature bundles next year: both Gremlins films and The Goonies. I could take or leave The Goonies (my sister loves that film), but it'll be a great way to get both Gremlins films in HD for a low price.

^Yeah, I prefer the design of the Gremlins in the first film. The puppets are much more sophisticated in 2, but look more generic.

As for tightness, well, Gremlins 2 is in many ways like a very old comedy movie where it's some vaudeville or radio or stage comedians and they're just stringing together their best material with a loose framework. I think such films can easily succeed without a strong narrative as long as they keep the energy and flow of the thing up.

...also, kinda think Gremlins 2 is mocking Gizmo for being cutesy by making him more cutesy. The final bit at the end seems to point towards Dante resenting ole' Gizmo.
