Re: New DVD/Blu-ray Purchases

I ordered the Warner Brothers Special Effects Collection a couple days ago (and received it today), after seeing some speculation that the set is currently or quickly heading to Out Of Print status. This is the blu-ray set of Them!, Son of Kong, Mighty Joe Young, and The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms.

I don't know if there is anything to the speculation, but I did notice in January that Deep Discount no longer has the collection in stock and I know that they had the set available over Christmas. I figured I'd better order the set sooner rather than later, and buying the set is currently a better deal than getting the individual releases (at least on Amazon; Barnes & Noble has it in stock but they're asking $55 versus Amazon's $38 + change).

Of course, it was only after I picked up the set from the mailbox today did it occur to me that while the Special Effects Collection might be going OOP, the individual releases are surely going to stay in stock for the foreseeable future. And in light of that, anyone that wants these movies on blu-ray should still be able to get them, just maybe not in the Special Effects Collection package. (And the prices of those individual releases will likely drop over the next year too, bringing the total cost down to the level of the collection's lower end price [around $37 give or take])

I just got the first Gundam items I have bought since like 2011:

I was shocked to learn when I opened them that they crammed the whole series onto 4 discs. I know its BD and all, but still. Also not a fan of the fact that $75 (SRP) sets are in eco-friendly cases.

Game of Thrones Season 5 Blu-ray set and Sci-fi classics volume 2.

The sci-fi set comes with Dr Cyclops, Cult of the Cobra, The Unknown Land, The Deadly Mantis and The Leech Woman. I really only bought the set for TUL and TDM.

^Nice. I purchased the original Gundam series back in 2001-02 (shortly after it went off CN), but yes, the flaw was that they only had the English audio, and after episode 8 (I think...) It only had the generic CN opening for each episode.

Then in 2012 I upgraded and got the last thing Bandai ever released- The Original Gundam Series under the Anime Legends banner Volumes 1&2 which had the whole series(which restored the original opening/closing to all episodes, and included Japanese audio with subtitles). Also these went OOP very quickly, and are insanely expensive on the secondary market.

--I had no idea 4 years ago however we would ever get Blu Rays. Cool you got them. By chance... is the missing episode #15 included (so there should be a total of 43 episodes instead of 42?) -If they included the missing episodes, that would be the one factor that would make me upgrade to the Blu-Rays, otherwise, I'm happy with what I have.

Bayview has been pretty good about getting these series out. I got Turn A, and will soon be getting Evolve & Gundam X. I would spring for the Zeta Gundam Blu-Ray, but again, I am happy with the Bandai DVD's I already own.

It seems they are releasing the UC series on Blu-Ray & DVD, and any non UC series only as DVD. Now the conflict... I will be getting rid of my Bootleg ZZ Gundam when Bayview releases this in a few months. however...Do I purchase the Blu-Ray, and have it be the "oddball" in my collection, or just get the regular DVD for consistency?

Unfortunately not. Tomino is still be a dickwad about that episode. I just went ahead and downloaded it as kissanime has it up for streaming.

Also, the BDs put Bandai's old DVDs to shame. The video and audio are incredible and the whole series is spread over 4 discs. In fact, Sunrise went back and remastered the original 35mm prints for their Gundam BDs. These BDs match the $600 Japanese ones.

I've now orderded the Zeta BDs, which someday Rightstuf is going to ship...

Apparnetly it is a "silent" grudge against someone who apparently "isn't dead yet", so as a result, the entire western world misses out. But that's ok. As Dr. Kain pointed out, Much like The Japanese version of Half-Human, Ultra Seven episode 12 etc... you can find it online

Got TFA as well. I don't know who Target is trying to fool though. 20 for the standard combo, or pay $5 MORE for cheap packaging and some bonus content I'll probably never watch

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence is a great movie (not to mention a fantastic western). It's such a shame that Stewart and Wayne didn't get the chance to make other westerns together earlier in their careers.

I blind bought Krampus. I didn't get a chance to see it in the theater so I hope I'm not disappointed. I did enjoy Trick R Treat and I know it's from the same director.
