^Or they'd have to dig up a usable audio track for the AIP versions and edit/synch their print from Toho to that audio to create a usable HD version of the original US release of the film. Doable, but quite a bit of effort when compared with the simple, pre-synched English option that Toho gives you right off the bat.

A subpar Blu-ray still beats a top notch DVD. Even if Sony's masters are more vibrant and have superior black levels, the Toho HD releases have got to be sharper and more detailed. Sony's DVDs might win at a distance, but up and close, on the proper equipment, they don't have a chance. Unless Kraken really screws up.

And there is a fundamental difference in dubs. The worst dubs are those just reading the lines. Several international versions are like that (the one with Gamera vs. Guiron comes to mind). AIP and other studios actually employed actors with film, stage and radio backgrounds to not only read the lines, but act upon them as well. And in some ways (believe it or not) the dubbed versions are actually more preferable than the original Japanese versions - Rodan for instance.

> Dr Kain not getting dubs.

Holy cow, sometimes they make all the difference! Godzilla vs Gigan's dub completely blows the Japanese film out of the water! It improves it.

"Cigarettes?" :?
"They're for yyoooouuu!" 8)

I'm pretty much in a minority here, but I find some of the international dubs pretty passable. Even great sometimes. I actually prefer Ebirah's Intl. Dub compared to the AIP dub because the bank robber comes off as a bigger hard ass! Also no one is trying to sound like stereotyped Japanese people.

"oohhh yes!"

Anyway, you got a lot of nerve talking about "Nostalgia" considering your gushing approval of the Heisei Godzilla films.

I see no reason to your thinking in not trying to get more than one kind of dub other than "hurr dubs suck I'm a serious guy"

I'd also like to point out that the main problem with Toho's HD transfers can be drastically improved by tinkering with the brightness on your TV just a smidgen .

I've got my MB disc of DAM on right now, turned the brightness down 12 notches and it looks amazing! The problem with Toho's transfers is that they're too bright. Maybe we should contact Section 23 and tell 'em to apply this little jiggery-pokery before release.

... also: one of the astronauts in DAM is the funny guy from Ultra Q!
