Two Carpenter classics. Arguably two of his last.

I definitely feel like In the Mouth of Madness is the last truly good Carpenter movie. Sure, Village of the Damned and Vampires are alright, I haven't seen Escape from L.A. but can imagine it has a bit of entertainment value as well, but Madness is the last one that gives me any kind of "wow" feeling.

I LOVE Escape from NY.

Just watched Dark City for the first time in a LONG time recently. It's a very atmospheric film, but to me, that's one of its only real strengths.

I love Escape from New York as well. Nobody made movies like John Carpenter made in the 80s. The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York etc. Its almost like John Carpenter drew individual story ideas from a hat, combined them into a movie and it was good. Its a shame now he only makes movies for a paycheck.

Confession time. I've never seen Dark City. This was a completely blind buy for me which I never do. However, I have heard so many good things about this movie I decided to pick it up. Hopefully it lives up to my expectations!

Game of Thrones Season 3 BD- Got it for $26. I'll probably rewatch the series starting next month so I can get prepped for Season 4.

I also got Game of Thrones S3 which is nice because I can finally know what this red wedding thing people keep talking about is. The only problem with each new release is that it means it is another full year until I get to see the next season.

I also love Escape from NY and Dark City. I haven't watched Dark City in a few years, but my god NY is amazing. I watched the movie for the first time in August, saw it at the Drafthouse in Sept, and then got it for BD for Xmas and watched it again. Three viewings in a six month period and I am still not sick of that movie. In fact, I might end up watching it again in a few weeks as my Carpenter mood from Sept has returned and now I want to rewatch all of the movies I picked up during those months.

I grabbed the old Simitar Godzilla box set off of Ebay for $60. Everything is in great condition, so I was happy with the price, especially considering that the set used to sell for several hundred dollars. I was never totally satisfied with the picture quality of the American version on the 2006 release, so it's at least nice to have this as an option.

Also, after waiting for years, I finally grabbed the final 3 Godzilla Perfect Soundtrack Collection boxes. I've been listening to those for the last few days.

I grabbed Giant Robo: The Animation and Black Swan a couple days ago. Haven't seen either of these before, but I'm expecting good things. Unfortunately, my copy of Giant Robo contains two copies of Disc 2 and is missing Disc 3. I've been having bad luck with anime robots lately - the last 3 episodes of Teknoman on my brother's box set were glitched and unwatchable.

I love me some Clint Eastwood Spaghetti westerns. Sergio Leone is one of my favorite directors. The way he could draw you to the edge of your seat with characters just squinting at each other. The grimyness of the characters made his films feel more real. The people were dirty which set them apart from American westerns at the time. Now with Gamera the Brave, I've only seen it once. I remember it being a quality children's film but I have no attachment to it. Jidas (not sure if I spelled his name correctly) was cool though.

I've only seen GTB once as well. I'm certainly due for a re-watch because I really enjoyed it.

Image Just picked this up at Meijers for $10. I will never get rid of my DVD copy of the Ultimate Edition though because it has the Theatrical Cut, Extended Cut and European cut. The European cut alone is easily my favorite version of this film. The fact that it uses more Goblin and is more action based really hits the right spots for me.

The European cut removes a lot of the boring stuff from the middle you mentioned in facebook. Its also more like an action movie. THe soundtrack is also a lot better as it has a ton more goblin in it. Its the cut I watch 90% of the time. If you ever get a chance to watch it, I recommend it.

Well I just got The Mist and I can't wait to see it. This is the two disc version that has one in Black and White and I can't wait to watch it. I remember finally seeing The Mist a couple years ago and loved it. The ending was brutal. Apparently its even better in black and white. On a slightly unrelated noted. I've never been the biggest fan of GMK. I thought it was an alright movie. However anytime I brought up flaws (this was 10 years ago on another Godzilla forum) I would just get ripped to pieces. Well once I watch GMK on my TV after de-saturating it to Black and White levels and I loved it. It made the movie feel more like a classic 60s film and made it more atmospheric. So I brought up my discovery and people just tore into me. Telling me how I might as well just listen to it in mono as well. How it can't be more enjoyable in since the director intended it to be in color. How I'm a moron for thinking this. People were talking about how they should quote me in their sig since my idea was so ridiculous etc. Well you know what? Once I get a chance to watch The Mist in Black and White, after having seen it in color, I might have to go back and enjoy GMK in color again. So to the fans of Rodan's Roost from over 10 years ago I say BOO-YA-KASHAW!
