Aliens are a comin'..., just keep watching. *cough* *cough* I like the monsters myself, but that's just me. That stinks about the subs, maybe they'll offer a corrected replacement? Just got a notice from Amazon, my sets is out for delivery. I have no idea when I'll get to watching it, but its nice to have. And Yes Leo and even some of 80 has silliness as well, I was just mentioning the immediate shows thereafter.

My set showed up from Amazon yesterday, a day ahead of scheduled delivery! Whoop! That's a rarity!!! Watched the first 5 eps last night. Pretty good. Video is nice and sharp, though not without flaws. Understanding the limits of the media at the time and whatnot, it looks pretty good. Costumes in first couple of shows was great, as to be expected, but by the 3rd ep the silver in Jack's suit was already heavily cracked and the monsters had some huge zippers on them for some reason! You know, that's one thing I simply NEVER understood. You know what side of the suit the zipper is on, so you think the camera crew would keep this firmly in mind and always try to shoot from the other side but nooo!, they seem to intentionally set up camera shots that feature the suit entrance side! SMH

Fun so far. We'll see how it progresses.

Watched 18-20. I have to say I'm a tad disappointed. I thought Ultra Seven was going to have some badass scene so I waited the entire episode for him to show up and kick some monster ass only to have it be like 20 seconds of him coming in to give Jack his new merchandise stick and leave. Like what the "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"? How does this even connect Seven and Return being in the same universe? Ultra Guard is not even mentioned once. I was also hoping the rod was going to do more than just copy Seven's chop up abilities.

On the good news, all three episodes had their subtitles in synch.

Is the desynched subs bad enough to warrant a fix, do you think? I haven't picked up Return yet (or the Orbs or Geed for that matter) so if they're going to a recall/disc replacement, I'd rather wait until the fix version comes out.

Finished watching Orb Origin...it was odd....I'll give them props for doing something original, just not sure if it was my kind of thing. Orb Fight was cool, but I know it was just a Youtube Series edited together. I guess it gives me a bit of faith to rely on Mill Creek. Since Tsuburaya distributes across so many different mediums now (Movies, TV, streaming), and rebroadcasts in different forms (combiners micro series, splits up movies etc...) I'll just have to trust them that we will get ALL the original content, without any of the rehashes. Since trying to sort it out online has become just way too confusing.

I got my set in on Thursday and I'm almost done with disc 1. I've been busy with work to get a chance to watch the show and so far I'm really loving it. Probably my favorite Ultra show so far.

Only 2 episodes left on Disc 4 to watch. So far, no bad subs to report. Episode wise, it's about the same, but damn was this one episode about an Ox monster freaking awesome. It had a lot of atmosphere, felt very horror-esque, something this show has been severly missing. I also did like the episode with the monster that could cause a typhoon. ON the other hand, I just watched an episode where the monster attacks MAT by farting.

EDIT: Finish the last two episodes. The one with the boy and the alien was quite good too. It's nice that aliens are finally starting to show up.

Finally ordered Geed and Orb, since they were back down to $18 on Amazon. If Orb Origins is still $12 when my check comes in this week (if there's enough left over after bills and such) I'll nab that as well.

Well I watched Disc 5 and the first 5 episodes on Disc 6 today. Thankfully there have been no subtitles issues. The only error has been on the disc menu's episode titles of Disc 5 where they mispelled Cruel as Curel. With that said, wow, the episodes on Disc 5 was absolutely amazing!!! The first six felt like Ultra Seven episodes. They were so good. I think the episode with Prizuma is my favorite of the series as it was just spectacular. Then again, the vampire one was also just as good. As for the Nackle 2 parter, it was almost as good as "The Seven Assassination Plan," but there are 2 minor nitpicks I have with it.

The two winter horror story episodes (no idea why they have that title, but they do) were great and the Baltan one was not bad.

As for the episodes I watched on Disc 6, they didn't match up to what was on Disc 5, but they were still excellent. It was nice that someone other than Go finallly got an episode to themselves (Ibuki). The last episode I watched made you think there was finally going to be an episode where we were finally going to get some character development for Oka, but nope, the episode wasn't about her, so that was lame. I also have one major gripe with one episode about this story teller her throws a kid off a bridge and blames Go for hitting him with his car. Go goes to visit the kid in the hospital and the nurse says the kids parents are too busy with work to visit him. WHAT THE "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"??!! The kid is in the hospital, near death, and his parents will not visit him? Oh HELL NO!! They have no right being parents if they aren't even going to drop their own "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" work schedule to take care of their dying child. Japan needs some equivalent to CPS! BTW, for someone who knows that episode, is the actor who players the Story Teller the guy who plays Barza in Zyuranger? It certainly looks and sounds like him, but I can't find anything Ultraman related on that actor's credits on either IMDB or the Sentai Wiki.

Only 4 episodes to go, which I'm saving for tomorrow. I can not wait to finish this show!

Yes, that’s the same actor (Jun Tatara). IMDb is especially worthless for Japanese actors’ TV credits.

Just finished the last disc. It was good, though not the best episodes of the show. The final episode was kind of... weird. It felt rushed and abrupt. Like...

I did love the connection made in the final episode to the finale of the original show, however, there was nothing at all in this series to state that Ultra Seven was in the same timeline given how Ultra Guard is never once mentioned. Either way, I am glad to have finally seen this series as it was an enjoyable ride even if it didn't live up to my high expectations. I look forward to working on my review of the series over the next week.

Re: Ultraman TV and Movie Licensed to Mill Creek for North A

Finally watched the episode with the mistimed subtitles Kain talked about, episode 17. The entire episode's subs are slightly off, so they pop up like a half a second before the line. It can be slightly annoying, but by the end of the episode I'd kind of forgotten about it. It's really only problematic for a single frenetic scene of exposition when the MAT members are talking one after another.

I'll shoot Mill Creek an e-mail, but it's not too terribly glaring an error so who knows?

I just finished watching Return of Ultraman, episode 17, "Monster Bird Terochilus - Big Air Raid of Tokyo" on Mill Creek Entertainment's Blu-ray set. I can confirm what Dr. Kain said about the issues with the English subtitles in his earlier post.

They are quite mistimed and not in proper synchronization. Virtually all of the subtitles, both for dialogue and text translations, are set either nearly a second or over a second too early, making them appear and disappear before they're supposed to. There are also many instances when subtitles are either on-screen too briefly or in a few scenes when subtitle timings get mixed up because the dialogue between characters is going by so fast. The scene starting at 00:03:20 on the video/disc player counter clock and ending at about 00:04:13 is a good example of those issues.

I know there's no guarantee that Mill Creek will fix these issues, but I feel it's important that we at least try and let them know about this. According to Dr. Kain, this seems to be the only episode on this Blu-ray set with this level of issues with the subtitles. If there's the chance that Mill Creek will correct them and issue a disc replacement/exchange program then I think we should take it.

Just finished Disc 3 of Return. The more I watch this show the more I love it. I really haven't found an episode I didn't like yet. There's been a few head scratchers in terms of plot but other than that I'm really enjoying this show. Probably my favorite Ultraman show yet.

So far I'd rank the series from what I've seen and can remember as follows:

1. Return of Ultraman
2. Ultraman
3. Ultra Q
4. Ultraseven

Can't wait for the rest of the Showa stuff and I'm really looking forward to Tiga. Its been ages since I've seen it and barely remember it.

^ I'm only 18 episodes in, but I think it may become my favorite as well. Still, these initial four shows are all fantastic, and I like different things about them so I would find difficulty in ranking them.

I'm slowly working my way through the Millcreek releases. I'm halfway though 80. So far I'm having a blast RoU is probably my favorite of the classic Ultra. Ultraman X and Geed are my favorite of the new gen releases. I can't wait to start watching the 90s series.

Ultraman has been my pandemic buddy in the last 2+ years. Right now I've got about a quarter of Ultraman Dyna left. Still haven't finished 80, Leo, and The Ultraman (got too excited for the '90s shows).

I hope Mill Creek re-ups their dealings with Tsuburaya. Would like them to go after the as yet unlicensed Ultra stuff (like the newest shows), and also things like Operation Mystery and Fireman.

Agreed. Ultraman has been a huge comfort through the pandemic. So far I've watched everything from Ultra Q thru 80 and most of the late 2000s releases Orb, Geed, X R/B etc. I'm looking forward to the 90s and early 2000s releases as they seem to have a totally different vibe. I did try to watch the Gridman release but never finished it as it was painful lol. I have watched some of the simulcast of Z and Trigger on YouTube but never finished either of those.

That post I made earlier in this thread, three years ago, when I said I wouldn't be one of the supporters voting with my wallet for Mill Creek to keep the Ultraman releases coming? How wrong I was. I haven't watched close to everything yet but I have collected all of the complete series sets that Mill Creek has released. I got the standard editions of the first seven shows instead of the steelbooks, and I didn't buy any of the separate movie releases or the recap series Ultraman Zero: The Chronicle, but I've got everything else and I'm currently in the middle of watching Dyna. I'll be seeing Ultraman shows for the first time for years to come!
