I agree, giant monster movies aren't really suited for Halloween, at least in my opinion because I watch them so many other times in a year anyway. The only Japanese films we've watched specifically for Halloween have been Matango and The Great Yokai War.
I absolutely love Halloween. I celebrate it the whole month. I make up an annual list of all the Halloween/scary/monster movies and programs being shown through the month of October and post it on my forum. I'm probably the only one who cares, but I love doing it anyway.
I really wish AMC's Monsterfest, or whatever it's called now, would have better lineups like they used to. Yeah, many of the films they still show are good, but they show them over and over and over! Where are the Universal Monster films? It was I believe, two years ago I sent AMC a letter complaining and they actually wrote back, saying they'd pass the info along. But I doubt that's gonna help.
I say get a Blu-ray player and get some of the newly-released BDs of the more modern classics like Creepshow and Child's Play (apparently Walmart even has Freddy vs. Jason for around $12!!).
