Last Tuesday saw the release of two much anticipated films.
The first, Dororo is a live action depiction of the popular comic produced by Toho and tells the story of a man who's father exchanged 48 of his body parts to various yokaiesque demons in order to rule the world, now he must destroy these demons to reclaim his body parts.
The demons are portrayed either by traditional suitimation, cgi, but mostly a combination of the two.
Re-cycle was made in 2006 by horror masters the Pang Brothers and tells the story of an author writing a book on the supernatural, but the more she writes the more she is realizing her story is starting to come to life, and before you know it she is whisked off in her own made up nightmarish world full of the dead and forgotten things of life....
This movie has to be the most visually stunning horror film I have seen since the days of Kwaidan and Jigoku. The movie reminded me a lot of the story Dante's Inferno, but with a hint of Pan's Labyrinth and The Cell added. Excellent movie!
Having just watched both of these I will tell you all that you will be missing out if you don't check out these movies.
