The first Japanese sci-fi on HD-DVD is...

...being published by Kadokawa, beginning with Masaaki Tezuka's "Sengoku Jietei 1549" and Takashi Miike's "Yokai Daisenso". With Kadokawa supporting the format this early, could Gamera be spinning to HD-DVD soon?

Also, as it stands, the US and Japan are now on the same region code for HD-DVD, and many of the initial discs are actually being released region-free!

I doubt it. I'm sure they'll leave the old DVD region coding alone, seeing as how one of their goals with these new players was to keep modifications out in the first place. Just another way for them to hold the upper hand. If they do decide to leave the regions for DVD alone and create seperate ones for HD titles, it will confuse the HELL out of people. But I guess since their going into this format war, they don't really care.
