I think, watching the old Lost In Space episodes, that the Robot resisted it's urge to jack up Dr. Smith because of it's relationship with Will(Robinson)(not wanting to frighten the young lad). C3PO would "feel" no such constraint, and would go off on the cowardly blowhard Smith with a metallic fury.
