Okay, I knew about the guy above before I did the show. But I was bored and came across this on the history channel. Anybody watch this thing?
It's pretty hilarious.

It is so amazingly stupid it verges on brilliant. I've never seen a show that demands the viewer say "no, that's impossible" or "no, that's stupid" at least a dozen times per episode.

The folks behind it: in on the joke? Surely, right?

It's really a funny show. I mean, when they're not saying crazy stuff there's neat tidbits in there (just historical facts), but I crack up every time they say ANCIENT ASTRONAUT RESEARCHERS or HISTORIANS or whatever it was.

^He's one of those guys where all it takes is one look to tell that they're crazy.

What if the aliens come back? They'd no longer be "ancient" at that point. They'd be "contemporary aliens."

I really want them to make a show called Contemporary Aliens.

Ok call me crazy but why isn't it possible? You tell me how the pyramids were built or how primitive tribes had knowledge of planets and stars we have only recently found? I am not saying all the theories are correct but alot make sense.

I'm inclined to throw my hat in with brianfett2 here. Sure, it's based in conjecture, and in dealing with specifics, there are a lot of theories that aren't really warranted, but at its core, I think the ancient astronaut hypothesis warrants more consideration than it tends to get. It's foolish (but very human) to think that we know everything there is to know about our past with the exception of a few small details. There's a difference between positing that maybe some form of intervention occurred at one or two key moments in human history and assuming that we would never have figured out how to tie our own shoelaces without help from extraterrestrials.

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of meeting Giorgio Tsoukalos (the "face" of the ancient astronaut movement) at WonderFest, and he struck me as a very charming, likable, and (gasp!) reasonable guy, not some nutcase who rambles on and on about obscure theories. Had circumstances been different, I would have liked to have sat down with him and had a chat. I got the distinct impression that we would have been able to carry on an intelligent discussion of the matter, with whatever skepticism I might have had answered with respectful disagreement.

You don't have to accept all these theories, but you shouldn't just dismiss the basic concept out of hand, if you ask me.

Because extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, the simplest explanation usually the right one, ect. ect.

As for why pyramids appear in ancient cultures around the world: stacking. Back then it was the only engineering possibility to make an enormous structure.

Yeah, I mean it was certainly difficult, but it happened. I'd love to believe Aliems came and decided to help us build stuff. I think that probably drives a lot of the theory. Somebody wants to believe in aliems, well BACK THEN WHO KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED? At the same time, who's to say that if Aliems showed up they didn't just land in the middle of nowhere, take a picture, and then leave?

I just get irritated when they say things like "THIS IS CLEARLY A SPACESHIP" or "ALIEN TECH"

It's like a connect-the-dots picture missing 1/4th of the dots. It was meant to be a rabbit, but you've turned it into Baragon or something. That's fine and well but it doesn't mean it was meant to be a Baragon picture.

Do the math on the great pyramids and see how many stones would have to be cut and moved per minute 24 hrs a day for how long. I dont remember exactly but believe it would be 1 stone per 4 min for over 20 yrs non stop. And sure 20 men maybe can lift 2 tons but for how long and many were 9 tons how did they get them to the top. A ramp would have to be a mile long to reach the top. Thats an engineering feet in itself. I am not saying any alien theory is fact, but you have to admit that it is pretty amazing that we can't duplicate these structures with our modern equipment and tech.
