Help get Escaflowne a new, accurate, English dub.

Funimation has started a Kickstarter to try and give Escaflowne a new dub:



I'm all for the new dub and I hope this succeeds. Some of the rewards are pretty awesome, but I just don't have the money for this sort of thing.

I haven't seen Escaflowne, yet. Is it good? Has it been dubbed, yet? If it has been dubbed, does it need a new dub, or is the first dub good enough?

How that show ended up on Fox Kids I'll never know. Albeit heavily edited of course. My friend got all the original Bandai DVD's . I had the film on DVD for a while. It has been so long. I don't remember the dub being that bad that it needed a new one. But as you say, it may be a matter of accurate translation rather than poor VA quality of the dub. That is interesting that Funimation has shown interest. And I thought the industry had pretty much stopped dubbing anime because 1) -most fans don't like dubs no matter how good they are (which I don't subscribe to btw...) & 2)-Too expensive to produce. -i.e.just subbing is way cheaper.

I'd say it is about even. As much as I love the Japanese versions, I do prefer to watch it dubbed if the dub is well made. Like I would rather watch Ghost in the Shell, Dragon Ball Kai and the two recent movies, Psycho Pass, Hellsing Ultimate, Tiger & Bunny, Full Metal Alchemist, One Piece, etc, in English. Oh, and Viz's new Sailor Moon dub is great. It doesn't mean I think they are all superior in English, but I prefer it. On the other hand, I can't stand the dubs to most Gundam shows and Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Funimation will never stop dubbing shows. Hell, they just announced they are dubbing the first anime Garo season.
