Not sure how I feel about this honestly. I just don't see how they could take the story farther without getting even more ridiculous than the Boo saga had with forms and power levels.
I'd honestly rather just see them start over from scratch and do a 100% faithful adaptation of the manga in 200 episodes. That is plenty for 519 chapters.

http://www.toei-animation.com/en/conten ... ball_superLooks like GT will be completely ignored and Toriyama is fully involved.

aren't ridiculous power levels and transformations what people love about this series at this point?
I'm completely on-board. Toriyama being attached should breathe some fun into the proceedings as opposed to the joylessness of GT (which is really my biggest complaint with that series)

Battle of the Gods was really fun. Lots of comedic elements and old characters returning. I think this could be good.

Most of my is excited about this. Some of me is thinking it's sort of a shame. The DBZ franchise is doing so well as a film series right now and I think there's still so much potential in that. It's really become too large for TV in my view and I was looking forward to future movies beyond Resurrection of F. I hope they continue down that path of canonical movies. It's working so well.

I'm excited about this, but at this point the characters are getting so overly powerful that by simply blinking they can destroy galaxies. I sort of hope they tone down the crazy transformations and just tell a good story with the customary DBZ action we all love thrown in.
I never saw much of GT and have heard nothing but terrible things about it, so I'm glad this basically ignores that series (from what I understand).

I've only seen the first ep of GT. At the time I kind of felt that because it wasn't based on the manga it wasn't worth watching. I picked up the 2 season set for 20.00 a few weeks back, though. I plan on watching it eventually. Life keeps slowing down my DBZ re-watch, WE'VE BEEN ON THE NAMEK SAGA FOR WEEKS. Although..that's how it went when I first watched it.

I'm currently in the last quarter or so of the Saiyan Saga (or Vegeta Saga, whatever they've re-named it).
I had never seen DragonBall before, only Z and GT, and I had only seen sparse episodes here and there of DragonBall as a teen, which I didn't like because no Super Saiyans and no Vegeta and other stupid reasons. I rather enjoyed watching that series. A couple "meh" sagas (I fel the Baba saga was only just kinda fun but a little unmemorable, and I felt the General Blue stuff of the Red Ribbon Army was maybe the weakest). I loved all the Tournament sagas though, even though the Piccolo Jr saga makes little to no sense logically. He wants to win the tournament for no real reason since his goal is to kill Goku and take over the world, but it was a tournament saga and I like those, personally.
The ending of the series take a little too long (I could have done without 5 episodes dedicated to putting out a fire), but overall it's really a lot of fun and there are certain elements (like an emphasis on the hunt for the dragon balls) that I'm sad were basically thrown to the wind by the time DBZ ended (after seeing Dragon Ball, I think it would have been kinda cool if Babidi was on Earth not just to awaken Buu, but to get the dragonballs to do so). From the time the Garlic Jr saga ends, the "hunt for dragonballs" stuff from earlier in the story of Goku is just basically GONE and the balls and their purpose just pop up in brief snatches to wish someone back to life or something.

I like the post Piccolo Jr. filler because, while weak, it gives some kind of development for Goku/ChiChi's relationship.
That's something that's painfully obvious as an adult is just how sidelined the few women in the series are. Bulma maintains her usefulness at a Techie, but it's hard not to notice the lack of women.

Do you have any wants out of this series?
For me, at the least I want a female Super Saiyan (I dunno make it be Pan or something. FUTURE PAN TRAVELING TO THE PRESENT!)
And at least the return of NORIO WAKAMOTO as uh... Golden Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Super Perfect Cell!
"I realize that name is quite a mouthful...so lets just call me... Ascended Cell..." lol

I'd like to see Vegeta outclass Goku, at least for a bit, and come to the realization that he doesn't really feel the need anymore and surpassing his rival doesn't give him the feeling of accomplishment he would have thought. Maybe Goku gets his butt kicked by someone and Vegeta makes the save and rather than feel smug, he's concerned for Goku or something. Kinda mix up their dynamic a little instead of having Vegeta always chasing after Goku's strength.
