But most cartoons - especially the robot shows - are trying to sell you something, whether it's toys, comics, video games, novels, model kits or whatever. Some are more obvious than others, but ultimately they're out there to get you to buy stuff if you like the show. You can still have a really great show and have some merchandise attached to it. Just depends on how it's handled.
Now as for Toei's moe mecha show... honestly, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

On the one hand It looks like it could be silly fun - something akin to Go Nagai's CB Chara World - but at the same time I can't help but feel a little disheartened that we probably won't see a 'proper' old-fashioned monster-battling super robot show for who-knows-how long.
I certainly don't consider this thing to be some unholy abomination or affront to Nagai's xacred venerated works or anything - I just really miss my old monster-of-the-week robot shows, is all.
