I watched the first two episodes finally since this show's been all the buzz and I'll just say I'm not very impressed. At all.

The premise is great and it's what initially drew me in, but the characters are godawful and the melodrama is unbearable. Not feeling the drive to keep watching, I at least wiki'd the rest of the season and found that I'm glad I didn't try to "bare through with it."

Not trolling, but.... I'd be interested in seeing if I'm the only one who thinks the show is kind of overrated.

I don't know about the anime, but I love the manga. Although I feel like my fondness is more for the concept, world, and art of the manga than the characters necessarily. I don't really recall much in the melodrama department unless its been stretched out and so overwrought so as to be unbearable.

I feel like most anime take a good 5-6 episodes to start to get good. The best ones tend to be good after 1-2, but I'd have missed out on some great series if I gave up on all of them that soon. Not saying AoT is one of those shows, just making a broad statement on giving anime a chance before dismissing it. Not every series is going to be amazing from episode 1.

That's part of why I felt compelled to wiki the next few episodes, and eventually the series as a whole. I didn't really like what I read (I'm not really fond of the unanswered questions being dangled in front of the viewer for the whole season).

And from what I saw of a recap video, the characters pretty much act the same. I could barely sit through two episodes of them; I doubt I could survive the whole series. x_x

Generally I am an agreement of giving a show several episodes (no more than that, though), but in this case I could kind of see that the things I didn't like weren't going to change.

The concept of the show is great and I think that's what gets a lot of people hooked... it's like Walking Dead only with giants instead of zombies. But for me there's nothing exciting about watching it because all the main characters I'm spending time with have about two specific emotions each (sad and angry). Erwin's friend (the dark-haired girl) is especially bad; she's just the cliché "mysterious and quiet and tough" girl. Her sole motivation is to "protect Erwin." Ugh.

I've never felt so emotionally charged about a show I didn't like. I guess it's 'cause I don't watch a lot of TV shows, but... ugh. (throws down microphone)

Yeah, I understand your criticisms but the characters aren't any worse or better than some of the other shows I like. I also think more will be coming to light about certain motives later on, which is why I can live with a build up. The main thing I like about the series is the "twist" we get towards the end. I haven't read the manga but hear the plot becomes very good later on...and I'm already satisfied with the anime.

I think people who really enjoy this show enjoy the premise and the gloom and doom of it and are willing to overlook—or simply don't notice—the bland stuff that it's floating in. All's I know is that I can barely stand the constant "gaaah, we are so screwed" sentiment that never lets up, with characters who feel like rough outlines rather than fleshed-out characters that I can sympathize with.

Sad and angry... In a world where people must live in a walled city or be eaten by giants, do you expect them to be dancing around flowers and rainbows.

And you are focusing on just Eren and Mikasa. There are so many more characters to like. Annie, Levi, the doctor lady, Sasha, Jean, Ymir, etc.

Plus, the mystery of "holy **** I cannot believe they just showed us that!!! Does this mean )(U#UH#()#*$#ILKFNKJB$UPR#MONMPO#<MO$!!!??????????????"

I'd expect characters and a plot that moves along or presents something interesting rather than dragging on with varying degrees of the same emotion.

One of my favorite books is The Road (movie's not bad, too). That book is bleak as hell. But it had a point, and it had an engaging back-and-forth between a father who's in the pit of despair and a son who doesn't understand why his father's so negative.

Attack on Titan feels like emotional pornography instead of actual drama.

Does wiki-ing the entire series count? :P 'Cause after episode two, I read the summary of episode 3 to see if it seemed remotely interesting to me, and it didn't. Then I tried four, then five. Then I got to the end, and felt glad I didn't sit through another episode.

I will give one or two more episodes a try at some point when I have idle time, but nine episodes is pushing it if I haven't been grabbed by then. For the time being I think I'm going to hold out for Higuchi's film. :D

If you are reading Wiki, then you aren't even interested in the series enough to care so I'd just say stop and move on. If you want to watch something though, just watch episode 14 or 15 (which ever is the trial episode) and if that does not make you interested in the series, then forget about it.

I'm about half way through the season and I'm loving this show. Its like Night of the Living Dead meets a kaiju film. Highly recommended.

Bryce Papenbrook has been revealed as Eren in the dub. Ironically enough, I just had this taken with him earlier before finding this out at Con Nichiwa:

Sat down and watched the first two episodes of Attack on Titan. I actually wound up not disliking the animation for the reasons I thought I would. I disliked it for entirely different reasons.

I started reading the manga well before I saw the anime. Although I merely enjoyed it at first, what really hooked me was the incident covered in episode 5 & 6 of the show. It totally shocked me and set the mood of the show more than anything previously. I can't argue that the characters are rather flat, but I think they serve their purposes well enough, and both forms of the story are well paced, maintaining a very tense atmosphere. It's also great to see the manga come to life so vividly and clearly in the anime. I enjoy the art style, and the music is terrific.

Honestly, I think it's best to read most of the manga before watching the show, since the manga has progressed much farther and thus offers more questions.
Of course, it has also raised a whole lot more...

We watched the first seven episodes of the dub today of Attack on Titan. Thankfully Mikasa's English voice is a vast improvement over her Japanese one. Unfortunately, Armin's took a hit as his English voice is so damn whiny and pansy. I don't care for it. Nevertheless, I find the show so much more enjoyable in English than I did in Japanese. I also have to say I love the music, it is awesome. The only issue I have overall is they don't sub the text during the eye catches. Overall, I am looking forward to finishing it tomorrow and want Volume 2 and the next season now!!!!

At G-Fest, Hiroshi Sagae mentioned he was doing some work on the live action film for Shinji Higuchi. He said he couldn't talk about it but described the movie as a 21st century War of the Gargantuas

I just hope they can do what they need to do with the small budget they have. Also, I really hope they keep it as intense. A PG-13 Attack on Titan does not work, so I really hope they aren't watering it down for a wider demographic.

And yes, Sagae is working on the new film, as is Day of the Kaiju director Kazuhiro Nakagawa. Both were at G-Fest and both were very tight lipped. But yes, Sagae said it was like a modern WOTG and would be done as an old school kaiju film. And a certain someone I know got to see some pictures off the record and said the Armored Titan especially looks awesome as a suit.
