That's great for people who don't have Castle of Cagliostro yet.

After seeing most of Frozen about a dozen times (we play it at work & if I am helping in returns it's hard not to see it), I can clearly say that the Oscars are just about $ in that category.
At least it seems so.

I think Studio Ghibli will be in good hands, so he can rest easy.

Still it's very random that the big anime news sites like ANN haven't said anything about this.
Hopefully it's just a rumor.

It's very sad, but it has been a creeping suspicion all along. Studio Ghilbi has lasted all these years as being (mostly) the vehicle to provide new films from two of the greatest anime film directors of all time, Miyazaki and Takahata. With those two men retiring what is Ghibli's identity? I don't think they can get by just by approximating the kind of films Miyazaki and Takahata would have made, even if those films are pretty good.

Speaking of which, when the hell is TWR coming out on BD?

As for Ghibli itself, well I have to be honest, I never realized there was a difference between Miyazaki and Ghibli until about a year ago. I thought Ghibli was just the name Miyazaki's studio used and not that Miyazaki was an employee of theirs.

Wind Rises, Mononoke, and Kiki on Blu-Ray from Disney this November.

Word on the street (i.e. twitter) is that Disney's upcoming Mononoke Blu-Ray has the dreaded dubtitles, much like their Castle in the Sky Blu. Once we get closer to release in a week or so we should know for sure.

If so, I'll be going with the Hong Kong Blu Ray: same region code as us, an exact port of the Japanese release - but cheaper, and featuring high quality subs by Ghibli themselves. I was very impressed with my HK copy of Castle in the Sky.

Both Mononoke and Kiki have dubtitles on the new Disney Blu-Rays. The Wind Rises has accurate subs.

If you want more accuracy in your subs then buy another Region A release, like the Hong Kong or Japanese releases. If you're not as much of a stickler then the Disney release is fine. The dubs for those films simplify things a bit, try to make some things clearer, and add the occasional joke, but they're still fairly accurate to the spirit of what's being said. People who've never seen the films before probably won't care whether the character is called the Deer God (Japanese) or Forrest Spirit (U.S. dub). The reason why the dubtitles were so egregious for Castle in the Sky (Disney's previous offender) is because the dub was off the mark a lot!

Disney have also announced the release of Porco Rosso, Earthsea, and Pom Poko (Yay! My favorite non-Miyazaki Ghibli film!) for early next year. Naturally, I'll be waiting for the early reviews before buying!

I finally managed to catch a screening of Kaguya today. Hands down one of the most beautifully-animated films I have ever seen. Oh my God.
