I sure hope they announce the home video release date for When Marnie Was There soon. Really want to see what is likely to be Ghibli's last film...

BTW, if you haven't picked up Discotek's new Castle of Cagliostro Blu-Ray, please do so! It looks fantastic, and it has so many extras you'll think you've traveled back in time to the heyday of DVD a decade ago. Also, for those following such things: Disney's recent batch of Blu-Rays have proper subtitles, so Spirited Away is safe to buy. Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and Pom Poko are the ones with dubtitles. I've been very happy with the Hong Kong releases of these, they're Region A and have good subs. Yamadas remains the only one of Disney's titles unreleased.

Miyazaki's currently working on his first CGI cartoon: a 10 minute short for the Ghibli museum about the adventures of a caterpillar. If that rings any bells you probably remember this was a story that Miyazaki considered turning into a feature in the mid-'90s, only to decide on making Princess Mononoke instead.

I hope we'll eventually be able to see all these Ghibli shorts.

Just because Ghibli may not make another feature doesn't mean GKIDS is getting out of their 'releasing Ghibli movies theatrically' game.

Hey, did you know Hot Topic is selling Ghibli merchandise? Today I saw they had a special shelf with Ghibli clothing, plushies, and little nick-knacks. If you need a stuffed Totoro (and who doesn't?), head on over to Hot Topic of all places!

I got a Totoro shirt from them last year. They have a nice supply of anime merchandise, generally.

Got my Complete Hayao Miyazaki box set, and if you've been wonderin' about whether to purchase: it seems Disney has fixed the subtitle errors. Checked Castle in the Sky (the finale), and the dubtitles are gone. The famous line about about man not being able to live apart form the Earth is back. Checked Nausicaa, and while the original release is fine, as a fluke it retained the burned-in English credits even when watching the original Japanese, and now the Japanese titles are present.

Mononoke has real subtitles to while Kiki has subtitles based on the Streamline dub, which is apparently accurate enough because those are the same subs Studio Ghibli uses on their releases.

Unfortunately, the individual disc extras are gone.

This set is REALLY pricey. I don't think I could justify the cost to myself, personally.

^I can understand that. But if you're interested in single releases as far as I know Disney's Mononoke, Kiki, and Castle in the Sky releases still have dubtitles, so I'd go with the British or Hong Kong releases if you want those films.

His latest film has topped the Japanese box office since it was released at the end of August and brought in more than $160 million, becoming the fifth-highest grossing Japanese film of all time.

I recently watched my first Miyazaki/Ghibli film, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and I enjoyed it tremendously. It's great when you watch a film that clicks with you on so many levels. My one nitpick is I expected more Giant Warrior action, but I guess I have that great Anno/Higuchi short for that. I'm also looking forward to picking up the manga which extends the story (like Akira, another all-time favorite of mine).

I think I'll be seeing Miyazaki's films more or less in order from here on out. I've been meaning to get to this for quite a while!

Lupin The Third in Castle of Cagliostro was before Nausicaa.
It recently got a Blu-Ray release from Discotek.
It also features 2 dubs (at least my DVD version from Manga (IIRC) does).

The more recent one features David Hayter as Lupin.
So Solid Snake as Lupin (he's not as high pitched as Sonny Strait or Tony Oliver).

It's the movie that Steven Speilburg says is the "greatest adventure movie of all time" (at least that's what it says on the back).
