Finished all the various Slayers movies/OVAs.

Slowly been watching Captain Tylor (up to the last disc).

With the usual Holiday madness it's hard to get in the frame of mind to watch anime...

Though I am planning on buying about $70 worth of shows from the Right Stuf sale.

Including:

Captain Tylor OVAs
Ninja Nonsense
Grrl Power
Death Kappa

And most likely the first season of Squid Girl.

Found all 3 volumes of Battle Athletes (used) at a local HPB for $4.99 each.
Watched the first 2 volumes (4 episodes out of 6) these are OVA quality episodes so they are somewhat longer than normal.
The story seems better so far than the Battle Athletes Victory version.
In that version (which is longer & I rented via Netflix DVD service) the MC is a rather whiny girl who gives up easily, until her friend cheers her on and then BLAM she suddenly comes from behind and wins...
This one she isn't quite as whiny, and even though she has a few doubts, she doesn't give up.

Both versions of Battle Athletes feature attractive ladies in sports related outfits.
Some slight nudity as well.

Both are out of print, and both were from Pioneer.
The cheapest volume of Battle Athletes was $5.20, and it went up to around $30 (used) on Amazon.

Watched the Lupin III vs Detective Conan tv special and movie. Both are fun to watch, though the movie is the better of the two, storywise. I've always been a huge Lupin fan, but these have got me interested in Detective Conan (Cased Closed here in the U.S.) so I am going to try and find time to watch them.

Case Closed is a decent show, I watched it when I could back when it was on Cartoon Network.
The only issue is that there's at least 600 episodes, and I think it's still going.
Not to mention the several movies as well.

Funimation was dubbing the show, but it either didn't sell well or they got tired of it, so they just stopped doing so.

Got the stuff I had ordered from Right Stuf.

Captain Tylor OVA
Ninja Nonsense
Grrl Power
Death Kappa
Squid Girl season 1 (both parts)

Also ordered these via Amazon (got $150 worth of gift cards)

Tenchi Muyo OVAs 1 & 2 (Combo Pack)
Ghost in the Shell Arise both parts (Combo Packs)
Yongary Blu-Ray (pre order)

Watched Grrl Power which was short yet fun.
Not sure if they were trying to make a series or just a OVA.
Cute little girls doing odd jobs.

Then started on Squid Girl, which is also pretty fun.
The dub features a bunch of "squid-isms" (stuff like Tentacular, Squidvade, Kraken, etc).

Finished part 1 of Squid Girl.
This is a very fun show, and I hope somebody eventually gets season 2 out on DVD in the US.
I was mistaken to say that they dubbed it in New York, when it was actually Bang Zoom.
So if somebody else gets it, hopefully they can use Bang Zoom again.

Then watched the first disc of Ninja Nonsense.
Which is pretty funny, and cute.
The dub is rather amusing, since Sean Schemell (spelling?) voices a rather weird character.
Hearing Goku talk that way is just LOL worthy.

I've started on Birdy the Mighty. 8 episodes in and I'm really enjoying it. A good overall storyline with great action.

Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact-

This is actually my 3rd viewing of this series. But my first since purchasing the official R1 licensed set from Discotek/Eastern Star. Now the previous set I had, used what I *thought* were relatively accurate subtitles. But man... now after watching this version, I am getting so much more out of it. The subtitles have to be of the highest quality because I am noticing so many minor details I never picked up on before, and questions I thought were left unanswered are definitely being answered. I always loved the animation and action in this series, but thought the story was a little weak. I know Go Nagai in his older age has become a little more nonconformist, and is not big on "happy endings", and I know this series has that ultimate conclusion, but it may not ultimately be as unsatisfying as I once thought. I believe he always leaves the door of hope open, even if he never follows up with a sequel.

Finished Ninja Nonsense it was short but fun.
Kinda sad to see it end.

Also finished Battle Athletes, the OVA version is a lot better than the longer TV show version (Battle Athletes Victory).
Mostly cause Akari (the main character) wasn't a whiney girl who gave up all the time, but somehow gets inspired and comes back to win.
In this version she actually tries and wins.

Then I watched Ghost in the Shell Arise Borders 1 & 2.
Lots of cool action, a good dub, and interesting to see how the team comes together.
One thing I can say, don't mess with The Major!

Picked up the Box set from Discotek/Eastern Star of Super Dimension Century Orguss. As the only part of the "Super Dimension" trilogy not adapted into a Robotech series, I had been curious about this series for a long time. The character designs and Mecha all definitely have a Macross feel, but with the story involving time travel and alternate dimensions, I can see why it would have been hard to adapt to Robotech's storyline. The story itself is quite interesting, though I am only 3 episodes in. It has an Aura-Battler Dunbine feel to it. I have compared extensively Robotech with the original macros, though I have yet to see the original Southern Cross or Mospeada to see how they compare to their Robotech counterparts. But seeing this as sort of the "Neglected Cousin" Orguss seems like a fairly entertaining series on its own. cant wait to watch more and see where it goes. Also, although only about 1/2 the series was dubbed in English, it sounds like a lot of the VA's who did the original Guyver with US Renditions.

I had seen some of Orguss before via a rental either through Netflix or the local Hastings that closed down.
It was OK, but I wasn't really into it.

Finished Ghost in the Shell Arise, great stuff.
Hope the movie comes over soon (along with the last 2 episodes of Alternative Architecture)

Finished Squid Girl (at least what's on DVD) really funny stuff, the mini-squid girl things were really cute.
Seriously somebody needs to get season 2 over to the USA ASAP.
Preferably with the same dub cast, so we can have more fun squidisms.

Also watched Summer Wars (found a Blu-Ray at HPB for $15).
Such a great movie.
Kinda wonder if the Internet will become that way really soon...if it isn't already.

Sorry... I usually don't bring this sort of thing up but I was just curious..... I have been watching two series recently (Orguss & Turn A Gundam). One came out in the early 80's, the other 1999. Now both have had official R1 DVD set releases in the last few months, by different companies. However... They both feature occasional scenes of casual nudity. Nothing sexual, just usually a clothes changing or showering/bathing sequence (fan service) whatever... But I noticed on both of these there were edits with pixilated nipples. I guess I just don't get it. There have been plenty of series/movies released that didn't make such edits. I mean if you are going to edit such scenes, might as well cut them fully. I literally thought it was something wrong with my DVD at first until I played it back. Anyone else experience this on recent releases? Just curious if it is a trend, or just a couple of isolated incidents. Honestly, I don't watch any anime that is sexual in nature, and I don't watch the stuff I do (Mostly Super Robots), because of the Nudity, but I've come to expect that they occasionally will throw those scenes in.... .

Never really noticed that.

Though some DVDs I own have "smooth" breasts, while the Blu-Ray has full details.
To be fair it could be the fact that the last time I watched certain shows that featured this quirk, it was on DVD on a 26" TV, and the rewatch was on a 40" TV on Blu-Ray (the show was Cat Planet Cuties BTW).

I have heard that sometimes in Japan they covered up the fanservice on the TV broadcast, and used that to sell the Blu-Rays.
In the case of the Cat Planet Cutie show, I heard they had the little cat droids use their signs to cover revealing shots in the broadcast version.

Not sure why they would pixelate the breasts though.
They do that mostly with the privates (especially in Hentai)..

I started watching Kyoto Animation's new show Myriad Colors Phantom World(Musaigen no Phantom World). While I like the art style and visuals of the show, it's first episode did little for me story-wise (and, honestly, "gainaxing" was the last thing I wanted to see in a KyoAni show). It is Kyoto Animation, though, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and keep watching it.

Erased(Boku Dake ga Inai Machi), on the other hand, had a gripping first episode. This is going to be a great show, I'm sure.

Speaking of KyoAni, I started Clannad the other day. I'm nine episodes in, and it's thoroughly sad & bittersweet in that way accomplishes so well.
Also, did that first arc basically recycle the entire overarching story of Kanon? I look forward to finding out how much I like this show, as I liked Kanon but was underwhelmed with Air.

I finished Birdy the Mighty, the animation could have been better, but it was a really entertaining series, too bad there aren't going to be more. I've started on 1 Punch Man, so damn funny! Also I've started Gate, a great premise, 8 episodes in and I'm eager to see where they go with this.

I finished Clannad yesterday; it was funny, sad, and pleasant overall (as expected of a Jun Maeda story), but the narrative didn't seem as cohesive as it ought to at times. It was pretty good, but I ultimately prefer Kanon. I'll see what happens when I watch After Story, though.

Erased is still great so far; it's equal parts tender and intense, and it works terrifically.
Myriad Colors Phantom World is still... Pretty-looking, so far. That's about the most I can say in its favor.

I watched FLCL for the first time recently. It was...goood?

It's a bizarre show. Overall, enjoyable though I'm not 100% sure I completely "get" it. I liked watching an anime that made fun of a lot of anime tropes, though (specifically the fan service aspect).

I finally saw The Tale of Princess Kaguya today; it was a masterpiece, no ifs, ands, or buts.

I also saw When Marnie Was There the other day; another very well-done film. These were a great couple of films for Studio Ghibli to go out on (for now...?).

Giant Gorg- For all those that believe all super robot series are cookie cutter/monster of the week. This definitely proves them wrong. It has a wonderful 1980's feel, and one of the most delightfully Unique Super Robot series I have ever seen. I've heard others compare it to The Goonies, but with Robots. Not sure how accurate that is, other than the heroes being chased by a criminal organization. But I'm only a few episodes in. Cant wait to watch the rest.

Dinosaur King-I am not watching this, but my 10 year old son is, at it was just added to Netflix. -I refuse to let my son watch Pokémon, because I just find it to be extremely annoying. But of course leave it to the Japanese to repackage it, with Dinosaurs instead of Pocket Monsters, and Basically you get Dinosaur King. I barely recall this on Fox Kids. It's hard to believe there are 78 episodes!?! -But at least its about Dinosaurs, and since it is almost a decade old, there is no merchandise on the market to entice him
