So this season I am so behind in anime. I have yet to see anything past episode 13.5 on Shingeki No Kyojin.. and all the new anime this season has been amiss for me. I have been up-to-date with only Legend of Korra (does that count?) and Highschool DxD. I want to start Sakamichi no Apollon among a few other things, but Kill la Kill (same creator from Gurren Lagann) is coming up too.. :P

Well Legend of Korra (and Avatar: The Last Airbender) are animated, so why not.
They look similar enough to anime (like Teen Titans as well), and seem to have the great story lines/characters that anime features.

While some people get all "uppity" about anime vs animation (western), I don't.
Reminder that ALL animation is called anime in Japan.

As I have stated before, I don't follow the streams, so I have no clue what some of these newer shows are like.
If it gets enough interest (and sounds good) I might buy/rent it when it gets released in the USA.

So feel free to talk about those shows, but maybe go into a bit of detail on the story/characters/etc.

I watched the first disc (4 episodes) of Najica Blitz Tactics.
If your not familiar with this show (or its "sister" show Agent AiKa), here is a brief summary.

Studio Fantasia made both shows (and are by the same guy).
Both shows are very notorious for showing as many panty shots as possible.
Any & every chance they got they showed panties (or pantsu as the Japanese call them).
Or bare butts & breasts as well.
Take that and add in secret agents & guns and you've got a pretty fun show.

It's an ADV dubbed show so it features Kira Vincent Davis & Monica Rial as the main characters.
With supporting roles by the usual who's who of ADV dubs.

It also has some pretty good jazzy type horn music.

Obviously if you have kids that you don't want to see young ladies underwear, keep them away.

http://teleport-city.com/2013/09/26/crusher-joe/ After reading Teleport City's review of Crusher Joe I had to check it out. The movie and two OAVs are surprizingly well produced. Very well written and plotted, with above average quality animation. All the craft designs are IMO flawless.

I mentioned in the other thread that I finished (and enjoyed) Attack on Titan.

I just started Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood yesterday. The first episode was great.

Anyone else get the Starzinger movie set from S!F ?? I was very pleased with the Gaiking one as it retained most of the original music and sound effects. However with Starzinger, I just had to write this because I couldn't get past the opening theme... nto only was it NOT the original series music, but it was a bad remix (pretty blatant rip off) of the twin suns theme from Star Wars...!?!... We'll I'll watch the first movie now, but I hope there aren't any more surprises like that one.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Finished Najica Blitz Tactics a while back.
Thinking about grabbing Agent AiKa from Right Stuf (really cheap).
Amazon has the virgin mission OVA of that show as well.

Finally got through Tears to Tiara.
After a couple episodes I got used to the Irish accent, and it became a pretty fun show.
All the classic ADV voices were in here (Luci Christian, Monica Rial, Hillary Haag, Chris Patton, Greg Ayers, and even Tiffany Grant). Monica & Luci both had more "adult sounding" roles than the normal stuff they do.

Overall it was a fun show, if you like Fantasy (and a bit of King Arthur), check it out.

Also started on the Hellsing series (non Ultimate).
Just cause it was Halloween time.

Despite the vastly different (than the manga) story (except the beginning), it does a few things better.

It tells the back story of Seras better & makes her a much more characterized person.
In the Ultimate version it made her a comic relief person until about episode 7.

It also does the back story of how Integra meets Alucard for the first time better.

Sorry for the long times in between posts.
I work a lot, and I don't have as much time to watch as I used to.
Plus playing Pokemon Y a LOT as well (over 100 hours).

So after finishing Hellsing, I watched some other stuff (non anime).

Then I chose Kiddy Grade at random and am on disc 2.
Doing the dub, mostly cause the voices are fun.

BTW the Right Stuf pre-Christmas sale has started!

There's going to be 3 waves, the first 2 are up now.
Wave 3 hits Nov. 27.
The sale says it ends Dec. 2, but knowing them they will throw it in with the regular 12+ Days sale.

If you don't know what I am talking about, here's the gist:

Every year Right Stuf has a sale around Christmas.
There are some insanely cheap prices on anime.
Last year I bought about 10 different shows/movies for about $60.

This year looks really crazy as far as prices go.

So far we have these for $20 or less:

Afro Samurai (both parts) (dub only & edited): lots of action & amazing dub (of course it is only available dubbed)

Aria Season 1: very relaxing slice of life show, one minute you are laughing, the next you will be crying like a baby.
Seriously even though it's sub-only it's excellent (hopefully they do another bundle deal with all 4 parts).

Coyote Ragtime Show: very underrated action show with cool characters & fun situations.

Girls High: Fun show about girls in high school, it's sub-only.

Shuffle: different sort of harem show with a ton of cute girls, plus a great twist near the end.

Early Reigns: very rare Wild West movie, and pretty fun as well.

Jubei-Chan Season 1: While it might look cutesy, it's rather action packed.
It also has some rather funny moments as well.

Muyo-Ken: a team of demon hunters in feudal Japan. Was kinda fun, maybe I will buy it myself.

Nanaka 6/17: REALLY fun show about a really serious girl reverting to a kid like mentality.
Basically shows that no matter how old you are, it's OK to act young sometimes.

Captain Tylor (both the series & OVA PLUS artwork for $40): yes this is above $20, but it's a great show.
It features Crispin Freeman as Captain Tylor. Who is either the most luckiest guy in the universe, or he's way more than he seems. A must own for any serious anime fan! Hope they sell the OVA seperately (already have the series).

Emma A Victorian Romance Season 2: One of the greatest romance stories ever told.
Great story, great artstyle, and it ends very well. Of course it is sub-only.
Which makes ZERO sense since it's set entirely in Victorian England...
Oh well, it is a great show (hopefully season 1 is later in the sale).

Moribito Complete Series: great characters, great story, great dub, and a decent amount of action & adventure.
Not boring in the slightest (people called in Borebito when it was on Adult Swim).

Chance Pop Session: very underrated show about three girls brought together by fate.
They strive to become pop idols, only to discover a great secret about themselves.
Really moving at certain parts, and the music parts are extremely good looking (almost like a music video).

Nerima Daikon Brothers: take one part Blues Brothers, and a whole bunch of Excel Saga and you have a rather wacky, but fun show. The dub is amazing (yes they sing EVERY song in English), and especially fun is the "Panda" song.

Redline (DVD or Blu-Ray): Amazing in every way, and shows that traditional animation techniques can still make amazing things. Great story, amazing racing action, and very fun characters. There is a bit of nudity & bad language so keep the kids away.

Hellsing (non-Ultimate): sure it's way different than the manga, but it shouldn't just be dismissed.
Some things in this version are done better than the Ultimate version IMO.
Such as making an actual character of Seres Victoria and telling how Integra met Alucard.
Obviously the dub is amazing, and Crispin Freeman just IS Alucard.

Zaion: An interesting show about cyborgs & telepathy. While short, it had an interesting story, and good characters.

World of Narue: Fun show about a cute alien girl who falls in love with a normal Earth guy.
Some episodes deal with cosplay & anime idols.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex Season 1 Anime Legends: Amazing show, amazing dub, and another series that should be in any anime collection. Not sure why it took me so long to figure that out, but this time I won't let it slip away.
Unless somebody rescues this series, the prices will skyrocket soon, so grab it ASAP (just in case).
Now all we need is the 2nd season...

Agent AiKa Anime Legends: if you like action shows with a TON of underwear shots, this one fits the bill.
Fun story, good characters, and more panties than you can count...
All you need to complete the show is the Virgin Mission.

Colorful (the underwear one): this is a weird movie about guys trying to see women's underwear.
It was interesting to say the least.

Cyberteam in Akihabara: Combine magical girls with technology & a cute toy idea & you get this show.
The dub was fun as well. Sometimes it does get a little heavy on the tech talk.

Sister Princess: What would you do if you found out you had a whole bunch of sisters you never knew about?
That's the gist of this show. All the girls are cute & have interesting personalities & hobbies.
Some of the girls are a little aggressive when it came to loving their brother...

Alison & Lilia (both parts for under $20): this sub-only show was full of adventure, action, and a bit of political intrigue.
It has two halves, the first is about Alison a girl pilot, the second is about her daughter Lilia.

Daphne in the Brilliant Blue (again 2 parts under $20): action packed with girls in really revealing outfits.
Seriously some of these outfits are hard to figure out just how they stay on the girls.
Fun dub cast, an intersting story, and a bit of mystery.

That's just a taste of the sale, there's a bunch more.
Of course there is gonna be an absurd amount of cheap stuff to come!

I caught up with the Japanese broadcast version of Naruto.

I actually enjoy this show....despite all of the flashbacks/filler we get.

I haven't read the manga, but it's cool to see how many of the characters are never forgotten.

Finished Kiddy Grade it had a pretty good ending, though like a bunch of anime it still felt like they wanted to do more.

Started on Mao-Chan.

It's based on a manga by Ken Akamatsu but has no fanservice at all.
He did Negima, Love Hina, and A I Love You.

The story is this:

A couple years back a cute alien came to Earth (looked like a large version of Tama from Live Hina).
It laid 4 eggs, 3 of which had special clovers inside, the 4th said that Japan was being targeted by cute aliens.

So they decided to fight the cute aliens with cute little girls.
These girls are 8 years old.

The cute aliens are really cute, and don't really do any harm, but the girls want to defend Japan so they have to stop them.

So far we had these:

Giant kitten
Really tiny bunny
A bat
A large (but cute) bird
A goldfish

So after finishing disc one of Mao-Chan, I decided to switch over to another Ken Akamatsu show.

This time it was Negima!? (The one from Shaft).
I kinda liked this version, sure its way different from the manga (even that Negima Neo one was vastly different than this).
However this version was pretty fun & funny as well (with a hint of spooky/dark).

Up to episode 8.

Just in case you forgot, wave 3 of that sale is now up.

Not that much of interest (unless you like One Piece or Attack on Titan (manga))

Things of note IMO (again under $20)

Yumeria: fun battle harem show with cute girls. Really liked the character of Mone (they call her that cause it's all she ever says).

Mongolian Chop Squad: formerly called BECK, this show is great & captures a good sense of the alt rock scene during that time. The dub is amazing (especially the singing), and seriously blows the rather Engrish filled sub version out of the water.

Noein: sure half the time this show was full of random gibberish and a mess of technobabble, it just looks so cool.
Plus it gave us the infamous meme of "Ccccrispin Freeman get out of my bedroom!".

Birdy The Mighty Decode: one of the best action shows (the fights are really amazing looking).
It's too bad that it didn't sell and now it's a SAVE title.
The dub is great as well.

First Squad The Moment of Truth: the first Russian produced anime.
It had good action, an interesting story, and was very good looking.

Madlax: This one is part of the "girls with guns" trilogy, and is a big more focused on mystic forces.
It's slighty behind El Cazador on the list of best of them (Noir is OK, it's just these characters are more likeable than those two cold blooded killers).

I watched Gurren Lagann for the first time this week, and it basically met all of my expectations, in good ways. The plot was crazy, yet clever and coherent; the story was both serious and silly - whichever it needed to be given the scene - but also bittersweet; the characters were diverse and dynamic; and the art & animation were terrific. There were some aspects of the show I couldn't like - Yoko's outfit is terrible, Leeron is.. creepy, and that ending, i.e. , was somewhat anticlimactic - but as a whole Gurren Lagann kept me fully engaged, excited, and entertained.
I dare say Gurren Lagann is one of my favorite, if not most favorite, anime series so far, and definitely my favorite Gainax show.

BTW did you know Leeron was voiced by Steve Blum in the dub?
That's a very different voice than his usual gruff voice for characters like Spike, Roger Smith, or even Wolverine.

Got through episode 13 of Negima!? another thing I like abou this version is the fact they don't really go overboard with the fanservice.
In the other version (as well as most of the manga) they got carried way with fanservice sometimes.

Went back to Mao-Chan (on disc 2)

More cute aliens including a dolphin, and a huge sheep (that stole a bullet train).

Bought some stuff on that sale:

All DVD

GITS:SAC Anime Legends (apparently they need to get more from manufacturer)
Agent AiKa Anime Legends
K-On The Movie
El Hazard Playing Cards (only 99 cents)
Two $5 blind box items (random items worth more than $5) will let you know what I get.

Nothing besides Aria really jumped out & said "buy me NOW".
Hoping that Aria will be a bundle deal (all 4 sets) for the 12+ Days Sale.
Also hoping its under $80 (last year it was $78).

Well now the real sale is going on!
It's up to day 3 already.

1st day was mostly a bunch of SAVE titles (My Bride is a Mermaid among them).
2nd day was lots of DBZ/One Piece with other goodies like FMP (1st season)
3rd day was DBZ Kai, Yu Yu Hakusho, Slayers, Trigun, and Gunslinger Girl.
Along with The Second Raid for FMP, and The Third: The Girl With The Blue Eye.

Also the pre-holiday stuff has been extended until the end of the sale (Dec. 25).
Which was pretty obvious, since they did the same thing last year.

So far nothing really "awesome" has jumped out and said "buy me".
Heard that NISA stuff might be part of the sale.

Hopefully the coming days will have some more stuff that I would want to buy.

My order should be here by Monday at the latest.
Except GITS, which they will ship when they get more on Dec. 11.
Still free shipping, even though the total is less than the $50 limit for free shipping.
All you folks up in Canada have to spend $250 for free shipping...

Anyhow I finished Negima!? which I was switching back & forth with Mao-Chan.
Now up to disc 3 of Mao-Chan.
Like I said the episodes are kinda short (like 15 minutes).
So they fit quite a few episodes on the DVD.

Another thing this show has is a lot of piano music.

Finished Mao-Chan, it was a cute & fun show.
Pretty much anybody could watch it (almost no objectionable material).

My order from Right Stuf got here (minus Ghost in the Shell TV season one which is now on its way).

The two blind box items were Submarine 707r, and Fighting Spirit Champion Road TV Special.

Submarine 707r was very good, only problem is they only made 2 episodes.
Then gave up on it, despite a "to be continued" ending.
The show had cool subs (one kinda looked like Star Blazers) and an interesting story.
Hideki Anno directed the opening animation (it really shows).

Fighting Spirit was decent, good boxing action.
The characters were a tad goofy looking, and the main guy was a brainless goof who couldn't express his feelings for the girl he likes (she obviously likes him as well).
Still debating on if I should keep it or not.

I got K-On The Movie, and Agent AiKa as well.
Agent AiKa I watched rather quickly, mostly cause there is only 7.5 episodes.
A TON of panty shots, good action, a decent story, and fun characters.
Only small flaws were the rival guy sounded like Dudley Do Right (in the dub), and they added a useless guy to the main team. There's also a live action version (3 episodes) they didn't use French cut underwear (or even smaller stuff sometimes) like the anime does, but it wasn't too shabby if you like Japanese ladies behinds...

I ordered the prequel OVA Agent AiKa R16 Virgin Mission on Amazon for about $10.
Also ordered a copy of Godzilla: King of the Monsters by Scott Ciencin for about $5.
I totally forgot to buy it back when they published it, and it kept slipping my kind to try & find it.
Yes it's a kids book, but I have the other 3 in the series.

BTW Days 7 & 8 are up on the sale (day 8 will be up at 12:30 am CST)
So far the only thing I am looking at is My Bride is a Mermaid SAVE edition & Rozen Maiden Complete Collection.
Aria is still on sale, but I am hoping they do a bundle with all 4 parts (they split season 2 into two sets).

So after Day 8 we have only 5 Days left (the sale is actually the 13 Days of Christmas Sale).

Yeah, and Early Reigns is pretty good.

So I watched the first 2 OVAs of Tenchi Muyo.
Still a very fun & entertaining show.
BTW if you pay attention during the Lady Tokimi stuff you spot that Z guy.
So obviously people forgot about that part when OVA 3 came out.

Now I am watching Rune Soldier Louie.
Another fantasy show with comedy involved.
It's apparently also part of the Record of Lodoss War universe.

I bought these during the sale (which lasts until the 25th).
Nothing else jumped out, and there was no Aria bundle.
Plus the first season sold out before I knew it...

Oh well maybe for my B-Day (or if I get a gift card for Christmas).

Bought these:

Broken Blade DVD Complete Series ($21)
Hero Tales DVD Complete Series ($18)
My Bride is a Mermaid DVD SAVE ($15)
