Disney's Doraemon?!

Postby lhb412 » Mon May 12, 2014 12:40 pm

In what is surely the most unexpected anime news: Disney has acquired the U.S. rights to legendary manga/anime property Doraemon, and will begin airing a full season, dubbed, in weekly rotation on Disney XD.

I've always wondered about the character, since he's so ubiquitous over there and has never made it across the ocean to us.

A bit of controversy has surrounded this. It's gonna be one of the most extensive Americanizations in a good while: unfamiliar Japanese food and money replaced by dollar bills and pizza. Is this Disney's doing? Apparently not; it's the Japanese studio itching to make this character a hit in America like he is in the rest of the world. It's got a pretty strong dub cast:

Former Power Raner JYB AKA Ichigo Kurosaki AKA Vash The Stampede AKA Gurren on Tenkai Knights is voicing Nobita. Noice.

I will probably tune into this & give it a try. I've never seen Doraemon, so now's as good of a time as any to start. :)
