Technically you could always just say Nexus was the sequel to Next, since it comes a few years after the film.

How could I miss that?!?!?!

Also, I haven't seen the movie, but I read somewhere that "The Next" isn't actually called "Ultraman", but that a reporter gives it the name......If that's true, then wouldn't that be considered the beginning of UM?

How do they reference The Next in Nexus?

Around episode 25 of the series, things take a very dramatic turn. And by episode 32 or something around there, a pivotal character in The Next makes an appearance in the show, during a key plot point. Turns out, The Next takes place five years before Nexus, and the events in the movie directly relate to Ultraman's appearance in the show. I don't know the details, since I can't understand japanese, but footage of "The One" and Ultraman are shown on screens for the Night Raiders to watch as they do so in awe.

Something I never noticed, was that the insignia on the non-powered up Nexus' chest, is the exact same as the one on 'Ultraman's"

^^ I notice that too - That's why I was a bit confused - What happened to The Next? I know he can't be Nexus because it's a different suit, but the insignia remained the same.

I always had the idea that he had been imprisoned somhow or that this was another, earthly Ultraman derived from Next....
