Ultraman is a children's super-hero TV series created by Godzilla special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya by his own studio Tsuburaya Productions. It involves a giant red and silver humanoid (normally from space) that comes to Earth to protect it episode after episode by aliens, supernatural forces, and monsters, usually all of the giant proportions. And normally the Ultraman (there are more than one) merges with a human being and this human usually uses a special device to change into Ultraman when trouble gets too tough to handle, but there's a catch. Because of whatever reason, usually because of Earth's atmosphere, Ultraman can only retain his gigantic form for a few minutes, so they gotta' save the day quick. And usually Ultraman's human counterpart is a member of a high-tech special organization dedicated to investigating and dealing with paranormal situations, so basically the formula for each episode is the team goes to check out weird occurances, try to solve the problem until it gets too big for them to handle, and thus the one member turns into Ultraman to save the day. Like Godzilla, depending on which Ultraman series you check out, the show can be really great and fun or just plain dumb. I highly recommend checking out the original 1966 "Ultraman", 1967's "Ultraseven", 1996's "Ultraman Tiga", and 1998's "Ultraman Gaia".
