In the early 1960s, Toho's special effects master, one Eiji Tsuburaya, decided to launch his own effects company. This in turn let him into developing a television series similar to both The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits that would feature a bunch of stories revolving around monsters. This series, deemed Ultra Q, would go on to launch an entire franchise that is still running to this day. Is Ultra Q a masterpiece, or was it just a hit due to it being the first of its kind? I grew up on bad dubs and bootleg VHS tapes, it’s hard to believe that we’ve finally come to an era where we toku fans are getting all of this stuff in crisp HD.
