This is nice and all, but these two films aren't really great ambassadors of the series. The Ginga S film is especially bad.

The X film isn't Gamera 3 or anything but it's a good solid movie with some cool tokusatsu effects. It's basically all I needed it to be and I loved it. XD

That dub tho. Oof.

Wow! I'm definitely making this a surprise for my kids. They are going to love it!

*edit* only one date location in S.F....and on a Tuesday night...probably not happening unless they add some more dates/locations/showtimes. Well the eventual home media release will no doubt be still something to look forward to

I doubt I'll make it to this, with only one site in Illinois. :( ...But even so, the prospect of Ultraman movies playing in America is exciting!!

I don't know if I'd say the dubs sound particularly good, based on those trailers; but having the films (and maybe the TV series later?) dubbed should offer a huge boost of accessibility to audiences here, especially in the case of kids, who I'm sure make up a large portion of the shows' intended audience.

That dub though, man. I usually prefer dubs, but holy crap. Etalgar's voice...

Haha I've been checking for tickets to go on sale three times a day, closest theater is an Alamo Drafthouse that's two and a half hours away. I've heard of Alamo Drafthouse but never realized it was a franchise restaurant. Hopefully something closer pops up but it sounds like a fun day out with my kid.

Yeh, I'm hoping a closer theatre listing showing shows up. Right now the closest theater is 2-1/2 hrs away, which is a no-go during the work week

Went to search ultraman on fandango, just curious if other theaters had been added. Was surprised to see six different listings! None of the listings had trailers or release dates. I'm guessing these were for foreign markets at some point in the past?

Sorry, but the snippets I heard were just AWFUL. Certainly not the kind of thing I'd want to use as a springboard for hoped-for future releases here stateside. While we fans might endure them, (and even think they're not too bad considering what we've endured in the past), the average walk-in moviegoer will shake their heads & laugh their asses off, further reinforcing Japanese tokusatsu's sad status as "those dumb movies with guys in cheesy rubber suits and silly dubbing that doesn't match the on-screen actors' mouths. And in the case of these dubs, they don't appear to even remotely match the emotional level of the actors either. Seriously, they either sound like someone reading the ingredients on a can of soup or they're off the chart for hammy over-acting. Geez. :x

Saw this with my kid tonight, we had a great time. I thought the dub was fine; if you already hate dubs, it's not going to win you over. I could also nitpick it into oblivion. The short version is that any character with more than a half-dozen lines was good. Would rate it higher than the Gaia and Tiga/Dyna movie dubs, but not quite better than the Cinar Ultraseven. Terminology is used correctly and consistently (and in one instance I think was improved). Credits list Japanese screen/voice actors at the top and English cast at the bottom so I am going with the assumption that, unlike some other Winckler dubs released in the past, these will have Japanese tracks and English subtitles.

Picture quality was supeb. Unless something goes horribly awry, these will be great Blu Rays. I love Ultraman, I have been watching Ultraman TV series on and off since I was a teenager, with a few exceptions I actually hate Ultraman movies. Which is bizarre to me because the TV series are so filmic. I had seen the Ginga S movie before, I did not care for it. X was better, at least they tried to hang a plot on it. But it doesn't even matter, these were a joy to see in a theater. These movies are inconsistent with digital and practical FX and the larger format amplifies the strengths and flaws; but when it's firing on all cylinders I felt like a kid again.

Poor Tiga. In the Ginga S movie he has a wrinkly suit and has to share a singe slot on the role play toy with Dyna and Gaia. In X he is hosted in a little kid. Ultraman OG on the other hand is SWOLE as a mofo in the X movie, the beefiest 50 year old I've ever seen.
