I'm actually quite excited abbot this as I held off on getting any of these (was a little burned out after the Zero Trilogy, which I did enjoy for the most part)...I have the 3 Winckler composite movies S!F released based on Gaiking, Starzinger & Danguard Ace. I'd like to see a good professional dub of a Modern Ultraman series, I think Tiga was the last one done, and since Funimation only got the series subbed, I doubt the English dub will ever see the light of day again. Here's also to hoping Shout!Factory will get a hold of these for north American distribution once they are produced.

Great news! I hope it points to a home video release in North America. I can think of a couple of distributors that would be a good fit for Ultraman: there's Shout! Factory (of course), Section 23 (maybe through Kraken Releasing), Right Stuf, and Discotek (which are releasing their first Tokusatsu with Star Fleet).

Just read the thing closer and saw that they specified they're whipping up English subtitle tracks as well, also: that mouthful of a title for the X movie has been simplified to "Ultraman X The Movie."

I read something at Anime News Network about a showing of the Ginga S movie in the Philippines ( http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... 11/.106118 ) The dubbing doesn't sound like the typical SEA dubwork, I was thinking this could be one of the Winckler dubs.

Awesome...hopefully in the near future we will here about some DVD releases. It wiould be nice if these 3 came together in a set, and perfect for where I left off. I got all the "Zero" films but haven't seen anything between "Saga" and now just starting to getting into the Orb series.

I didn't even know DIscotek existed in 2006. That sucks. I've been trying to find Space Amoeba and FCTW that I never realized I had a third movie to find. Well, I guess it's more like fourth since I had also been looking for Orochi too. Thank the gods I only paid $1.50 for that travesty. Although, I want my money back.

It covers a lot of the same ground as the Kaiju Kingdom interview, but a few new tidbits. He mentions Bandai, that they sell toys, that the primary audience is kids, they want to reach the widest possible audience, power rangers wouldn't have been a hit if it was subtitled, there wouldn't be a power rangers aisle in every toys r us, etc, etc. I know it seems like a longshot, it seems insane to me, but I think Bandai will be pushing Ultraman toys in North America.

He has Ultraman work booked for the next 8 months. I'm actually wondering if the Max dub is someone else and Winckler is concentrating on new stuff?

He mentioned one of the projects has a woman singing and playing guitar and he may have to change the music, than immediately realized that fans would figure out what movie that is (this is a scene in Ultraman Saga)

He is friends with Corinne Orr (original English voice for Fuji) and is trying to get her in one of the new dubs.

They considered having actors dressed as Ultraman to do a meet and greet for kids at the screenings, but it was cost-prohibitive. They are considering it for future events. Tsubaraya has to ship the whole costume in a big crate, so it's complicated.

He reconfirmed Blu rays and DVDs are coming, but can't say when.

Hmmm... I wonder what TV network would be the best fit for a dubbed Ultraman series this day? Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon would be the most natural. Maybe Discovery Family or - heck - Toonami!

Kaiju films are a genre with many barriers. A sub only release would be just one more barrier. Some of the theaters wouldn't have shown the movies if they were subbed. It's not, like, his opinion man, it's just how Hollywood operates.

With our continued wondering of just what Tsuburaya's distribution plan for this dubbed Ultraman stuff is (aside from a few screenings and Max airing on a channel no one on Earth gets), here's an interesting piece of news from Japan:

Ultraman's coming to Japan's Netflix. Might be a long shot, but wouldn't it be neat (and pretty much the optimal distribution venue) if it expanded worldwide?
