No, their announcement (with Famous Monsters) was a streaming marathon of G flicks. August Ragone will be introducing and talking about the films as part of the marathon. It also appears to be the Classic Media movies

I like the idea of a Dairangers DVD coming to America. It might create a demand for an American version of the team in a future Power Rangers movie.

So, I bought the Zyuranger set and never finished it. Just not my cup of tea.

How would you sentai fans compare the two series? I love Kamen Rider (Black, Stronger, V3, W, OOOs and Agito are my favorite) and Ultraman (Everything until Return and then Nexus and Max) but I haven't found a sentai series I've clicked with yet...

Just showing off my non-figure Dairanger collection:

I've watched episodes 11-20 today and hot damn I love nearly every minute of this show. I do have to say though that Shout's subtitles are awkward at times. Some things they will fully translate in English (like Dairinkin to Big Wheel Blade, Mythical Ch'i Beast, and Byakkoshinken to White Tiger Sword), but then they'll keep other things untranslated (mecha, some of the attacks and weapon names, and they kept it Byakko for when Kou calls him by his name). That minor nitpick aside though, I haven't noticed any spelling errors yet.

In 1993 Toei released Gosei Sentai Dairanger on TV to all of those living in Japan and footage from it was used for the second season of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Thanks to Shout! Factory, this series is now available for the first time on DVD in the US with English Subtitles. How is the series? Watch to find out.

Although I never really got into Power Rangers (was past my time), I appreciate that S!F is releasing the original Sentai series, especially Dairanger as the 2nd season of MMPR seemd to be a mish-mash of Sentai shows (especially when mecha from DaiRanger were spliced in fighting monsters from late episodes of Zyuranger), and the Dairanger uniforms themselves were never featured (with the exception of the White Ranger).

I probably wont get this set, but I did see a couple of episodes of the original series while the 2nd season of MMPR aired on TV, for comparison purposes. From what I recollect, Dairanger seemed to be really impressive in terms of SFX, story telling etc... IIRC the White Ranger was a little kid however, instead of a teenage/adult hero. Not sure how that worked out with the rest of the cast, but I know this is more the norm than the exception in Anime & Live action japanese superhero TV shows. I can also see S!F releasing the next series (Kakuranger) as season 3 of MMPR even became more convulted featuring the Ninjas as "Alien Rangers". After that... I'm not sure. Can't see S!F investing in nearly 40 years of Sentai series, but you never know. personaly I'd like to see them go back to the 70's and 80's and release some of the "Pre-Rangers" Sentai Series.

Honestly, outside of Jetman and Liveman, I couldn't care less if Shout! released pre-PR Sentai series. For me, the best of the best is from the 90s. Nevertheless, I will buy ANY Sentai series released in the US on DVD/BD to support it, even the series I do not care for.

BTW, those monsters that were fighting the Dairanger mecha were not actual Zyuranger monsters. Saban ran out of Zyu material so Toei created new monster costumes and filmed new battle footage specifically for MMPR so that Saban could up their episode count from 40 episodes to 60 in its first season and had enough footage left over for the first 13 episodes of Season 2. However, in reality, Toei filmed 20 episodes worth of footage if they were all stand alone episodes.

Finally bought this set today on Amazon. Honestly, the only two sentai series that ever looked interesting to me is this show and Jetman. I'll be sure to update this thread with my initial thoughts in a few days.

Welp, it looks like Sentai is just not my thing. This show is was better than Zyuranger but I still find it infinetly more juvenile than stuff like Kamen Rider Black or even modern Kamen Rider shows.
