I couldn't believe it when I first saw the link! I'm so happy that Max wasn't merely the exception. If we're getting Mebius on top of Max this soon, it's probably not the last Tsuburaya-controlled series we'll see on Crunchyroll either.

Mebius is technically the better series, but Max is good for beginners that want a taste of what the 60s shows were like. Mebius has more minutia from the 70s (although not entirely).

I prefer Max over Mebius, but Mebius is still good, and it really is great for beginners (like me).

Max has some episodes that may not work as well as others but Mebius seems like it kind of forgets what it was doing after about episode 12, so I'd rank Max higher overall.

I agree with the sentiment that Max is superior to Mebius.

The primary reason that people seem to use for an example of why Mebius works is because it features Showa Ultras. Max works on its own. It doesn't need callbacks.

I actually kind of hate Mebius. Max balances humor with action whereas I think Mebius is way too slapstick. I'm actually a little dumbstruck when I hear seasoned vet fans like August saying that they prefer Mebius to Max.

Personally, I feel like from what I've seen so far, Max trumps Mebius easily. Mebius is fun from the episodes I've seen, but at times, it feels like a fanfiction: It being set in the same world as the previous shows, lots of continuity, in-jokes, returning monsters and Ultras, etc. Granted, I am enjoying it, moreso than I expected going into it, but it certainly relies on the stuff it's calling back on too much. Plus, I feel like the slapstick is way too over the top and this is coming from someone who has Taro as one of his favorite Ultra shows. Max on the other hand, feels much like the first three shows (Q, Ultraman, Seven) in terms of execution to me. It's an anthology of all kinds of different stories and tones that only share the characters in them. And with guys like Kaneko, Miike and Jissoji, there's some really great stuff there. It's a shame Max gets overlooked by most of the fanbase (and Tsuburaya it seems at times, at least from my perspective). Max isn't a perfect show, but when it has some cool original kaiju that actually feel like they go along well with the ones from the original trilogy of shows, some superb episodes and callbacks to older shows that aren't too blatant.

Just started Mebius.

My exposure to Ultraman in general is severely limited. I caught some U7 shows as a kid when TNT aired it, but other than that it's been mostly clips. Mebius came highly recommended by some buddies so I'm checking it out. There's a huge Ultra Universe that I apparently know little about - multiple timelines and call backs to previous shows I've never seen, so wish me luck I guess?

The first two episodes were fine. I dig the miniatures.

i'm about 5 episodes in to this. I like the monster battles more than Tiga, Max, and Nexus (the other modern series i've seen) but i really dislike about half of the human cast... especially Mirai... and i could do without any of the METEOR scenes...

Just started the show. Watched the first two episodes and I feel it's closer in tone to Ultraman X than any Ultra I've watched before.

I was really delighted to see (err, 'hear') the return of the alien greeting "keite kasha kirerete," which was universal space language from episode 2 of the original Utraman.

I've stated this several times, but I think Mebius is my favorite of all the more recent Ultraman entries, in fact it got me back into Ultraman after a long absence. (Whereas Ginga, and every series since, that has relied on toy gimmicks has kind of made me distance myself again) I know a LOT of people really like Max (the prior series), because of it's nostalgic feel. With Max I think they were testing the waters to see if such a thing could even appeal to younger fans, but with Mebius they just went all in, even setting it in the original Ultraman (Showa Era) universe.

I've decided to watch this series again now, not waiting for the Mill Creek set, (though I'll definitely get it) because I have no idea when in the next 2-3 years they will get to it, and if I have access to it now, why not?...

I really like how they even acknowledge in the first episode its been exactly 25 years X months etc... since the last *Monster Attack* on Earth (basically from the end of Ultraman 80, to the beginning of Mebius). My only question is this....

Throughout the series, basically all the original Showa Era Ultramen (and their hosts) make guest appearances as Mebius/Mirai learns from all of his more experienced *brothers*, however there is one notable absence.

Saburō Shinoda who played the role of Kotaro Higashi (The host of Taro) doesn't appear. I thought maybe perhaps he had died, but I saw a recent video of him alive and well. I know at the end of the series *in fiction* Taro and Kotaro were separated, but this happened to other Ultramen as well, but they all returned, or retconned things so that any time Ultramen need to appear as humans, they can look like their host. I wondered if the actor just had a bad experience, or just never wanted to participate in any other Ultra series again?? It's just odd as he's the only one who didn't appear in the series, or any subsequent films.

At any rate, its been almost decade since I watched Mebius straight through, and I watched the first 5 episodes last night, looking forward to finishing it about the time that Mill Creeks Ultraseven comes out in a couple of weeks

I'm 17 episodes into watching Mebius. While there's a lot I like about it, Ryu is ruining the show for me. It's like someone transplanted the brain of a toddler into an adult body. His constant sulking and temper tantrums are insufferable, and it doesn't help that the show focuses on him more than the supposed protagonist Mirai a lot of the time.

Does Ryu continue to be given the limelight for the rest of the series, or does he start to fade into the background, or (unlikely as it seems) does he stop being annoying?
