So after a weekly feast of tokusatsu with my fellow GHIDRAH members (catching up on Kamen Rider Fourze and Gobusters), I went home with a toku fix, and I've been giving thought to revisiting Kamen Rider Blade, which if you haven't seen, I wholly recommend.

I ended up curing my fix by finally watching the movie, Missing Ace, and I do not recommend that. :puke:

But the show, yeah. What it's got going for it is some thick-ass atmosphere and wonderful characters. The whole thing, particularly in the early episodes, feels like it has an apocalyptic haze over it, and there are some awesome character interactions through the whole show, particularly between one of the riders and a little girl. Several of the Undead (the monsters of the show) also have important relationships with the protagonists, which is freaking awesome.

And speaking of awesome characters, Sakuya Tachibana/Kamen Rider Garren is my freaking favorite-ist rider of the whole damn show. (by the way, he's in Fourze as well). He starts out as kind of an antagonistic flip-flopper but he develops into this badass, lone-wolf type guy who's kind of a bigger brother to everybody else. And he has two supremely, goosebump/lump-in-your-throat awesome moments. (If you've seen the show, you know which two moments I'm talking about).

Look at him. He is awesome. I would go gay for him.

Okay, not really. Anyway, discuss!

Oh, and here's the OP (sorry for the poor quality).

I didn't like the card gimmick, either, (hell, I really don't like any of the toku hero gimmicks), but after a while, the idea of each rider increasing their power and their abilities based on the amount of cards they collect was kind of cool.

I don't think anybody should have to "suffer" when watching a show. Entertainment is not supposed to be painful. I'm having the same trouble with OOO's; I loved the first two episodes, but it quickly got boring because the writing is half-assed. I only intend to watch an episode here and there when I have time and if I'm in the mood, because I at least like the colorful aesthetic and the characters (Ankh is my fav).

As for Blade, it seems to be the consensus among Rider fans that it takes a while to lift off, but I was already hooked before the double-digit episodes. Then again, I've been known to like slow, "boring" stories.

Oh, and I actually went ahead and re-watched the first episode this morning. I think I may be marathoning it eventually. :D
