I realize that since making sh*tty Halloween movies, Mr. Zombie isn't really everyone's favorite guy these days. But I just saw him put on a KILLER show here in Detroit. One of the most pleasant surprises was he played tons of clips from the first 4 or so Ultraman shows (as well as some Kamen Rider), including clips from the original Japanese opening credits in a video montage during "More Human Than Human." He also played a lot of clips and trailers for old Hammer and Universal movies, but that's more or less expected out of him. He also had a Harryhausen montage during one of the songs... a lot of weird anime clips as well. Also, a Gorgo montage was shown during one of the songs. On a related note, there were always Ultraman vinyl toys floating around on Pee Wee's Playhouse and guess who was a set designer for that show? Rob Zombie himself.
Anyway, I just thought it was pretty cool to see Ultraman being played during a sold out rock concert and thought some folks here might think it was neat also. He also had a screen up during "Dragula" that was showing the heads of a bunch of classic movie monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, King Kong, etc. and Godzilla was one of the monsters shown. Just thought it was cool to see a popular band give love to Japanese monsters alongside well known American classics.
