This production has been fraught with setbacks, delays, and implosions. If it's not a screenwriter gone AWOL or endless location scouting with no positive results, it's an actress who pulls out the night before a big shoot or a shoot that took a long time to set up only to end in footage that's too dark to actually be usable. Among other things.
That's on top of school, work, and other film and personal projects we're all pursuing. God forbid I try and show people SOMETHING from time to time to remind people that we haven't simply given up on the project entirely.
If you want something more concrete, here it is:
We've jettisoned the previous script for episode 3, "A Moderately Threatening Invasion," because it was just stuck in development hell and stagnating. I got so sick of the screenplay never getting finished and never being able to hold down actors that I just decided to move on and finish episode 4, "The Adequately Threatening MechaSorta," which we had already shot a fair amount of footage for. Elements shot for "Invasion" are being incorporated into the new script for "MechaSorta," and the latter's story has been bolstered and extended slightly. Concepts from the scrapped script have already been reincorporated into some future ideas that may or may not get made. Dunno, that's why it's the future.
Our aim is to get MechaSorta out before next year's GFEST. Will that happen? Hell if I know anymore. Sorta 3 has been a huge headache, to say the least, but as much as I WANT to give it up sometimes, we're still moving forward. The bright side to all of this is that the longer it's taken, the project has evolved from something that would be just slightly better than Sorta 2 into something on a whole other level. Also, there's a floating island.
