Ultraman kaiju on MXC/Takeshi's Castle
I'm watching MXC: Most Extreme Elimination Challenge on Spike right now, the "Hip-Hop vs. Horror Movies" episode, and they just showed a couple Ultraman series kaiju. In the main area where Vic Romano and Kenny Blankenship were talking, they gestured over to a blue, poorly-costumed kaiju with some horns and a kind of frill rim on its head, and then cut to grainy footage of the kaiju on what looked like an episode of Ultraman. Then they showed another kaiju showing off to the camera on-screen, a bright yellow/blueish oddity with a small head and springy limbs that looked something like a cross between an accordian and a used condom. They then showed more grainy footage of this kaiju being blasted by lasers by Science Patrol members, confirming that it was from an episode of Ultraman.
I'm not very knowledgable in the field of the Ultra series at all, but I think I recall seeing a picture of the second kaiju on here somewhere and it being referred to as Red King (I'm probably wrong though, as this kaiju clearly wasn't red).
Now, just a few seconds ago as of my typing this message, they showed more footage of the in-field MXC announcer Guy LeDouche interviewing three costumed kaiju, one of them being Red King(?). One of the others was a kind of groggly-looking, brown/red, rectangular, stonish monster with big eyes and stubby, skeletonic human hands sticking out of his front. I know I've seen pictures of this kaiju on here before, but I don't have any idea what his name is. The third kaiju was all-red and had a clam-like mouth and antennae on his head. Guy LeDouche referred to Red King(?) as Godzilla.
This isn't the first time Ultraman and Godzilla have been referenced on MXC. On the "Monster Special" episode, contestants dressed in makeshift costumes played a game where they had to try to walk up a slanted hill plane while guys dressed in various Ultraman costumes at the top rolled large boulders down at them. And in one episode where Kenny and Vic were in some sort of bumper car-like arena on moving platforms playing a laser tag kind of game, they brought out a robotic Godzilla on its own platform wearing a helmet and blasting a laser gun of his own (Kenny referred to him as "Hodan, the monster pimp"). Being that MXC is made from a late'80s/early'90s Japanese game show called Takeshi's Castle, I guess it's not surprising that Ultraman and Godzilla references pop up from time to time. I just figured you guys might find this interesting.
Looking at the program guide, neither this episode nor the "Monster Special" episode will be airing anytime from now through this coming Sunday, so those of you who don't watch the show hoping to catch these references or whatever don't need to scrutinize them intently hoping to see them. But if you feel like checking out the show anyway, there's no fathomable reason not to watch it.
