ULTRA Q is supposed to take place in the near future from 1966 (while clothes are cars are identical to the mid-1960s, there are some things that are futuristic -- some sources site the 1970s or 1980s, although I have seen nothing official); ULTRAMAN is set in the early 1990s (1993 according to one episode); ULTRA SEVEN is set in the mid-1980s -- and there is no connection between the other series, except that Ultra Seven's homeworld is located in the Nebula M78.
Loose ties are made in the latter episodes of RETURN OF ULTRAMAN, things that happen in ULTRAMAN ACE are also loosely tied together; while in ULTRAMAN TARO, everything is tied together in a weird, sort of convoluted way. ULTRAMAN LEO not only continues the continuity thread from TARO, but it is also a direct sequel to ULTRA SEVEN (with the presence of Moroboshi Dan as the commander of the Monster Attack[ing] Crew). ULTRAMAN 80 is a restart of the series, but towards the end, makes direct connections to the earlier series (Ultra Seven, Father of Ultra, the Baltans, etc.), and ULTRAMAN NEOS is set in the same universe as well.
ULTRAMAN: TOWARDS THE FUTURE is set in its own universe as is ULTRAMAN: THE ULTIMATE HERO, which is a quasi-remake of the original series. While ULTRAMAN DYNA is a direct sequel to ULTRAMAN TIGA, ULTRAMAN GAIA is set in it own universe. Ditto ULTRAMAN ZEARTH, and the same goes for ULTRAMAN COSMOS (with the exception of the Baltans, who are also given a new origin). ULTRAMAN: THE NEXT starts a new continuity, which continues through ULTRAMAN NEXUS, while ULTRAMAN MAX seems to be set in its own world as well (except for some Old Skool monsters making a comeback, but anything can happen).
The newer ULTRA SEVEN adventures are direct sequels to the original ULTRA SEVEN series, and have no connection with any other Ultra Series. So, in a sense, you can also separate ULTRA Q and ULTRAMAN, and keep them completely separate from the other Showa series, and ULTRA SEVEN can happily exist in its own little universe, too. Anyhow, I hope I make sense at 3:19 am!
