I'm glad the Ign reviewer really shows respect toward the source material.

A pretty solid review I'd say.

I've been given a bit of flack from time to time ("Why do you watch this? It looks so fake!"), but most people don't care. Really, I probably bug more people for NOT watching Ultraman than anyone makes fun of me for liking it ("It makes you smarter, I swear!"). XD

But honestly, in my experience, Toku fans are more likely to have a life than more than half of all other fandoms out there, to the "most deviant, nerdy, socially retarded people," comment is pretty asinine.

A couple other things that bother me though... the comment about how Ultraman "spun off more than 25 Ultraman shows, not counting Mighty Morphin Power Rangers"... I'm sorry, what? Isn't Moebius the 16th series? Yes. Err, and the Power Rangers joke is old. Real old. God it's old. It's layered in dust, fossilized. GIVE IT A BREAK, PEOPLE.

*twitch*

And then there were the terms "Rodan series" and "Silver Robot." I think just saying them points out enough.

Gyah.

I concede. After looking at the set myself, it was definitely ripped from the R2s in some fashion. Also, hough the picture looks good for its age, it is quite grainy and very soft, which is distracting. As for the audio, the Japanese track sounds okay to me, but it is a much lower volume than the dub. So if you're switching back and forth, you'll have to adjust the volume accordingly.

The subs seem to be great. They use the official name "Bemular" instead of Bemler, and they even sub "Ultra Q" at the beginning. My only real gripe against this is the aforementioned error when Bemular is thrown into the water. The screen freezes, and on my player, it skips ahead to after Bemular's destruction. Therefore, I had to rewind it somewhat to watch Bemular try to escape in meteor form and get blown up by Ultraman's ray.

Still, I reccomend the release and hope there are more on the way.
