I think everybody is overacting just a teeensy bit. I mean, c'mon, we just got this morsel and everybody is acting like Tsuburaya is selling out. I think that'll hardly be the case.

Besides, the idea of a defense team made up of hot girl-band members sounds like too much fun to me.

I just read that the girl playing the leader of the team is exactly one day younger than me. I am amused.

Anyway, I'm really not seeing a decline in the quality of Tsuburaya's output anyway, because I've loved basically everything they've done since Nexus, with the exception of the ARMORED DARKNESS and GHOST REVERSE DVD gaidens. Maybe I just don't know quality! 8D

Wow, can't believe I missed all of this. My thoughts:

First, Kiryu, someday it will be helpful for us all if you admit that your tastes run counter to most of the rest of us...you like Batman and Robin for instance, and while there is nothing wrong with that sometimes it seems as if you can't fathom how anyone thinks differently from you when at least in that instance, most of us do.

Second, I agree with Mouth....ish. It's not a good sign, and I think the last movie was poo. But I'm still excited to see this movie, even if my excitment has somewhat been dimished from this ridiculous bit of casting.

It would be nice if Ultraman tried to put a little more science into their GUTS type units but those days are long gone I'm afraid. We're left with a punk of singers and flavors of the month now.

In regards to August's thoughts...well...you have to consider the source, I like August, respect his contributions to the genre but he's kind of a stick in the mud with a lot of the newer stuff. If it's not what he grew up with, he can be slightly unforgiving of its faults.

Anyways, Mouth, I would have to disagree that all the latest Ultramans have been crap, I loved Max, and film wise....the Ultra 8 Brothers was one of the sweetest, "wish fufillment" and the power of hope, stories I've ever seen. And for my money I think the best gateway Ultraman is the first Ultra Galaxy movie. It has everything from the mythos practically and it does it well

Speaking of which, think really hard about that film. Everybody hates it. It's almost "cool" to hate it. If you admit you like it, you're weird somehow. It's cheesy as all get-out. But take that aspect away. Is it still a bad film? Think about that. Really.

And I have seen first hand Jared admit somebody is right. It happens.

I think saying my tastes run counter to "most everyone here" is a bit of an overgeneralization. In fact, I would hazard that, in terms of Ultraman, there are more people who share my feelings on the last few movies than there are who share yours. Just saying. And even so, I still see no reason to get up in arms over this move without any context as to how they will be included in the movie.

But you're right. People have different tastes and here is no exception. You're also right in that I cannot fathom how you can call Ultraman Zero the Movie "poo." Typically I'm pretty good at seeing the other side. Gigan, Batman & Robin, Speed Racer... even though I think other people are totally wrong (<3), I can still see WHY they hate those films. Zero? I've never really understood the hate there.

Anyway, get ready to pour on the hate, because here's a new commercial announcing their participation in the movie:

I do not, for the life of me, understand how the toyetic nature of current Ultra series is any more blatant than stuff like Tiga.

Tiga is just justification of repaints :/

so many posts have happened since I was last in the thread, so I have to back up and read all in earnest. Though just looking at some posts and the new pics, I am wondering what is going on with them...where in the world do you come off having an all girl team for the Science Patrol? The way they look is also so non-serious. They look like something that escaped from Kamen Rider Fourze (from what I have seen of still pics and trailers). It made me wonder what are they up to?

The reason they look that way is because they're AKB48 and they're allowed to look trendy because of that. The in-universe reason is, I'm assuming, that they're not a government organization like SuperGUTS and the other defense teams through the years. They formed of their own accord and therefore they can dress however they please. I dig the look though, sue me, so I'm cool with it.
