7 next & re-dubbed???

Postby Jinzo Ningen » Sun Jul 23, 2006 1:43 am

Since BCI has listed this UM set as "series 1" it makes me wonder if they intend to continue with Ultraseven. It makes sense, but the dubbing issue kinda scares me. I don't know if the original Hawaiian dub tracks even exist anymore (I'm told they were pretty lame), and the Canadian dubs used on the TBS airings just plain sucked; every bit as bad as Tiga. (The writing, not the voice actors.)

As such, I wonder if BCI would consider re-dubbing the series with new actors using original scripts? Mediablasters did it with "Mysterians" and there are companies cranking out anime' series dubbed, so... ?

That would be sweet. I enjoy U7 very much. I know that many Ultra fans consider it the best of the original shows, but I still love Ultraman better. That said, I must confess that I've never seen the entire U7 series all the way through, so who knows?

Given the surprisingly strong sales of UM, maybe BCI could keep the UM torch going here in the US but skirt the Chaiyo controversy and instead work on newer shows, like Nexus or MAX or even Moebius??? Wouldn't that be cool?! (dreaming, I know...)

The set is certainly getting its just desserts over in Amazon's reviews. Comments about the poor quality of the DVD itself (not so much the show) abound. And it's interesting reading reviews of apologists there and elsewhere, just confirming what I said above: it may be a cruddy release, but its better than my bootlegs, so all is forgiven.

And did anyone else see that Jim mentioned? "Waah, waah, waah, we did the best we could with what we had, it's not our fault Tsuburaya wouldn't work with us, it's a lot better than a bootleg, we are not Warner Home Video, waah, waah, waah. Oh, and the freezes aren't a disc issue. You all have broken players. You know, the kind that switch back and forth between English and Japanese on their own. Waaahhhh."

What a crock. He's basically saying, "This is as good as it's going to get, we didn't screw up anything, and this this is the best you deserve now and for volume 2." No one else would get away with an attitude like this.

The freezes aren't a disc issue? That's complete BS.

How can it be so widespread if it's not the disc? Wtf?

His response is such a cop out. Ugh.

Yeah, I guess I'm just imagining this freeze...

...this freeze that happens on 2 DVD Players, a Playstation 2, WinDVD and PowerDVD. And the audio switchers. Equipment must be defective. I'll throw them out.

I'm not trying to make a big issue out of it. But compare the reaction (BCIs and the buyers) to that of Discotek's for the "War In Space" problem. BCI's response is more like ADVs attitude with "Destroy All Monsters".

Looks like Tsuburaya will have to look for another US company when they win the legal war. Someone with a more professional attitude.

Geneon (which did Ultra-DVDs in Japan), Media Blasters and Image are my top votes.

I was also thinking of JN Productions which is the company that produced the english subtitled kamen rider v3 box set and kikaida box set would be a good candidate to do pick up shows like zonefighter , spectreman, ultraman , etc...
