The set is certainly getting its just desserts over in Amazon's reviews. Comments about the poor quality of the DVD itself (not so much the show) abound. And it's interesting reading reviews of apologists there and elsewhere, just confirming what I said above: it may be a cruddy release, but its better than my bootlegs, so all is forgiven.
And did anyone else see that Jim mentioned? "Waah, waah, waah, we did the best we could with what we had, it's not our fault Tsuburaya wouldn't work with us, it's a lot better than a bootleg, we are not Warner Home Video, waah, waah, waah. Oh, and the freezes aren't a disc issue. You all have broken players. You know, the kind that switch back and forth between English and Japanese on their own. Waaahhhh."
What a crock. He's basically saying, "This is as good as it's going to get, we didn't screw up anything, and this this is the best you deserve now and for volume 2." No one else would get away with an attitude like this.
