Ultraman movie DVDs from Image Entertainment Discussion

I just got these (two years late  ) from amazon.com and wasn't totally sure what to expect. But now that I've finished watching both, I must say I was VERY impressed!

"Ultraman Dyna & Ultraman Tiga" was a great film. I've not seen the Dyna series, yet the movie explained the relationships and ordeals between the characters of Ultraman Dyna thoroughly enough that seeing the Dyna series wasn't really necessary. Asuka's character is made out to be idiotic, yet determined very early on.

The plot acts much like an enlongated Ultraman episode, with aliens taking over the "Prometheus", a new powerful battleship, in order to cause the extinction of the human race. Dyna is defeated by it, causing Asuka's ego to go into a slump.

Tiga's inclusion was great, though short. The two of them going at it with Queen Monera was very epic and interesting. Great stuff!!

"Ultraman Gaia: The Battle in Hyperspace" was a very different kind of film. Focusing around a little boy named Tsutomu and his infatuation with Ultraman Gaia and his alter-ego Gamu, and the world he lives in where Ultraman is nothing but a television show. He soon finds a red ball that grants wishes and wishes for Gamu to come.

Soon enough, Gamu's Fighter E-X is spotted over the city and he is soon chased by rabid Ultraman fans. Soon, a bully takes the red ball from Tsutomu and wishes for a kaiju. Ultraman defeats it, but the bully isn't satisfied, and after Gamu dissapears, and soon returns again (long story), more monsters are wished for, and Ultraman Gaia needs the help of Tiga and Dyna to save the world.

This movie was awesome! The King of Mons was a great kaiju, and the kids weren't annoying, but were rather endearing.

Also, the DVDs include original theatrical trailers for both films, and musical score tracks as well!!! Of course, they also have the original Japanese audio track with english subtitles. Yet, they unfortunately also include a HORRENDOUS english dub (WARNING! STAY AWAY FROM DUB!).

My advice to anyone who doesn't have these yet is to BUY THEM NOW!!!!
considering that they are almost 2 years old, who knows when they are going to go OOP, if they haven't already.

Here's the links to buy them on Amazon.com!!!

I must confess that both movies did not impress me too much. I really try to get into the modern Ultraman shows, but I think they are kind of slow and also a bit too tame. I always cringe at the end of the Dyna & Tiga movie with all the people "praying" to become "light", because I think it's just way too corny. Anyway, both DVD's are really wonderful and I'ld be happy if other Japanese superhero shows would be released that way.

In my opinion Ultraman Tiga & Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light, I thought that how they tacked Ultraman Tiga on was pretty low, they could have had a better way for him to return. Other than that, I had no problems with this film, a lot of action (A whole Island being destroyed with one shot, very impressive) fights, and everything that is Ultraman.

Death Facer was a great foe, and his transformation sequence is so complex that I was blown away when I first saw it. Probably the best thing that came from the movie.

The rest seemed to not be as impressive as the beginning was, the unclear transformation of Queen Monera and her lacking, lacking end with the twin Zepellion Rays. Kind of tacky for me.
