Now that WoO is over, I've been spending a little time going over some of the episodes again. I've realised one of the best aspects of WoO is the great composition of the SPFX scenes. There are so many great perspective shots; film though buildings, tress, etc., which really help but the size of the monsters into perspective. There's also a lot of depth-of-field, which so few shows seem to use now that everything has gone digital. It reminds me a little of THE RETURN OF ULTRAMAN (1971) in this way. I wish more of the newer shows were shot like this... ULTRAMAN MEBIUS actually looks quite bland by comparison...

On a whim I rewatched some of the battle scenes from this show. Jesus GOD I forgot how gorgeously staged the miniatures are in this series! I mean, I knew they were awesome but I forgot HOW awesome. D8




It was filmed in native HD, I believe, so this could EASILY be released to blu ray, something it desperately needs, IMO. o_o

The same shows plus Ultraman Ace are why I'm thankful for having at least a shaky grasp on Japanese language comprehension. I don't really care about subtitles anymore, I just want them to get Blu Ray releases so I can see them in all their glory.

Actually, are there any companies in the States that might be interested in picking up Mikazuki or WoO for a BD release? We could email some and suggest it!
