Ultraman Episode #36: Don't Shoot, Arashi!

Postby heroforhirerob » Wed Jun 08, 2011 12:38 am

The Basics: A monster that gets more powerful after every attack challenges the Patrol.

The Plot: Not much to speak of. The monster basically just appears out of nowhere....and its connection to the mysterious blinding light from the beginning of the episode is never explained. The major meat of the episode is about trigger happy Arashi. The episode is mostly just a scenario to explore his character a bit. That said....this could be yet another attempt by Mephiras(from episode 33) to get back at the Patrol. Zaragas certainly causes some dissension within the Patrol and he appears to be at least partially mechanical...

The Kaiju: Zaragas is a pretty good kaiju. Neat look..interesting powers. He seems to be a cybernetic organism...like Gigan.

The Acting: Arashi is probably my least favorite among the cast, but he does alright here...generally reigning in what could have been ridiculously overacted.

The SPFX: Pretty good. Not much city destruction, but all the opticals for Zaragas are handles quite well....and the opening ceiling break is convincing enough.

The Other Stuff: Due to poor editing, it's hard to figure out why Arashi is in trouble near the end of the episode. He's attacking the monster...we see Ultraman transform...next thing we see is Ultraman with plane in hand and an unconscious Arashi.

Zaragas was one strangely designed monster, but hey so were a lot of the Ultra show monsters. I liked the episode as it got to focus on Arashi, who is my favorite character as far as monster fighting teams go.

I agree with Legion, we need to see Zaragas as a Bandai, and not an undersized one either.
I can hear really well and I am STRONGER than ever!
