The idea of replacing the Shinto shrine maiden stuff with some sort of Native American mysticism strikes me as... a bad idea. First of all, it insultingly equates vastly different non monotheistic religions with each other. Secondly, if the movie is about a white boy walking around in some native girl's body? Have you really thought this through, JJ Abrams?

There are people who think that JJ (Jar-Jar) Abrams doesn't think things though. That how we got Episode 8: The Last Jedi.
