Jordan Peele's Get Out

A couple of months late, but I thought I'd make a thread for the low budget, mega-blockbuster helmed by 50% of Key & Peele. As y'all know, it's an unprecedented financial and critical success made all the more surprising because of the fact that a) horror films still tend to be looked down upon as simple exploitation and b) films seen as being 'black interest' are generally ignored by the mainstream.

It takes a lot of classic film influences and turns them to a new purpose...

I wanted to like it more than I did given the rave reviews. I thought it was good, solid, and mostly effective but I hated the best friend character and I think despite the film overall intentionally mingling satire/humor with horror, there were moments where the tone wasn't quite sure of itself and I didn't know what the movie wanted me to feel at that time. It's an impressive directorial debut and I really did like the movie, but I think it fell short of the GREATNESS that's been attributed to it by many.
