Apparently he(Nacho Vigalondo - director of "Open Windows") wants to do an old style man-in-suit kaiju flick and he even has a script??!!:

Interesting. I thought Timecrimes was smartly written and intriguing to watch unfold, so i am intrigued to see what other projects he has

I tried to write a short story like this once. Compared to it, I have to imagine Colossal will a) be finished, and b) turn out much better. It's a really solid idea.

Nacho Vigalondo's COLOSSAL

From Voltage Pictures, the movie is described as 'Godzilla' meets 'Lost in Translation.'

We know he's using Godzilla as a placeholder so people know what he's talking about (basically a generic term for Japanese inspired kaiju), but actually using Godzilla (and, uh, Mazinger?) images in materials?

Dude's never heard of Toho's lawyers and their "sue first, ask questions later" policy.

I can't say I blame Toho since they might be a little over protective of their property when they are about to make their own Godzilla movie.

*edit* It sounds like this guy is using this as a PR stunt for the movie. What did he think was going to happen?

I've merged the two topics, but yeah, it sounds and looks like Toho has a right to be suing over this, and it SEEMS like this was a cheap ploy by Vigalondo to drum up press and hype for his movie and maybe get it marketed later on as something that was "banned" or "The movie Toho didn't want you to see!!!!"

I haven't heard anything from Vigalondo since Toho started the legal process saying anything like "Those are just placeholders. I didn't mean to be so crass. [insert diplomatic thing here]" He said, "I'm gonna make a cheap-ass Godzilla movie with me stomping around in a Godzilla suit. You know Godzilla, look, see, here's Godzilla. That's what I'm gonna do."

Bleh. It's very much soured me on the idea of this film and I doubt I'll give this project my money at all unless we hear something very to the contrary from Vigalondo.

Especially after I wasted my money on Escape from Tomorrow, which basically got all of its publicity from "Disney didn't like that we filmed this guerilla-style" and then the movie itself stunk.

What does Vigalondo have to do with 'Escape from Tomorrow'? I'm interested because he made a very intriguing time travel movie with a relatively small budget and production called 'Timecrimes'

They've just changed the official synopsis to not include mention of a giant lizard...Just type Colossal in the search engine:

http://www.voltagepictures.com/titles.aspx

Colossal

"Gloria is an ordinary woman who finds herself in an extraordinary circumstance. Tokyo is under attack by a giant robot and, for some strange reason, Gloria is the only person who can stop it. In order to do so, Gloria needs to figure out why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world."

Director: Nacho Vigalondo
Cast : Anne Hathaway
Genre: Sci-Fi
Status: New

Now Voltage Pictures have brought the giant monster back into the synopsis but with no mention of the giant robot......

"Hathaway will be playing Gloria in the picture, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancée, decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her home town. When news reports start surfacing that a giant monster is destroying the city of Tokyo, Gloria gradually comes to realize that she is connected to these far-off events. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world."

So the specific identity of the giant destroying the city is irrelevant to the proceedings and the giant monster is interchangeable with a giant robot, but Vigalondo conceived and pitched this as "the cheapest Godzilla movie ever." I have a feeling this is going to be a very meta kind of movie and I'm going to go ahead and guess that Anne Hathaway's character is in a coma and everything happens in her head.

I have a sneaky suspicion that this movie will involve Hathaway walking around a miniature city as she projects herself into the monster.

Well, according to the director the project appears to be moving forward despite it all so maybe some sort of agreement was reached: https://www.twitter.com/vigalondo/statu ... 8171447296
