I've never read the original story, but I thought the Darabont mist was pretty aces.

The movie was very well done, but one of the most depressing things I've ever seen.

If Darabonts film had ended with them driving off into the unknown, it would be one of my faves... but that ending... ugh. no thanks

Yeah, read the story, saw the movie, loved both, but the movie's ending...just too depressing. Shoulda stayed with the book's ending.

This series could be interesting.

I loved the movie's ending. It was a real gut punch. One of the best movie endings in my opinion.

I love the ending! I don't think I'd mind the other one either, but I love the ending in the film as it is.

Personally, I love a good shock ending. 78's "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is a great example. This movie, however, went beyond shocking to just downright cruel, in my opinion.

I think it bothers me more as a parent than it did before I was one, but yeh I think you hit the nail on the head with the word "cruel"

The film's ending is one of the most perfectly downbeat endings of all-time. I'm all in favor of all kinds of endings, happy, sad, ambiguous, whatever, as long as they fit the story. I felt the ending of The Mist fit well given that the whole theme of the movie is basically about how people eventually abandon hope if pushed far enough.
